Guest guest
I keep forgetting to tell you about this WONDERFUL resources. During the last three weeks of Mom's life, she had a catheter in and could no longer raise her arms over her head. It was very hard to get clothes on her. I knew she would have HATED sitting around in a hospital gown or nightgown if she had known what was going on. I stumbled across this site and found the GREATEST clothes for her. They are VERY high quality and I would HIGHLY recommend them. I bought Mom three gorgeous sweat suits with peter pan collars. The sweatshirts snapped up the back and the pants zipped from the waist down below the knees on both sides. When company came, she looked like she was wearing a regular really nice sweat suit, but we had easy accessibility to change her when necessary and it was much easier for us and more comfortable for her when we dressed her. They were practically brand new when she died so I donated them to hospice for a family who couldn't afford to buy them. This store has men's dress shirts, fancy dresses for the holidays and other special occasions, great nightgowns and casual clothes. It has a weird name but, their stuff is great! They might have some great Christmas gift ideas for some of you. http://www.buckandbuck.com/ Gladys
Guest guest
This is great, Gladys. I am going to keep the site for the future. Don was dressing himself with his shirt part way on, and his fly still open today when I arrived. I helped him finish dressing. It won;'t be too long before he goes around in the halls naked. He dresses and undresses all day. The DON said it gives him something to do. Guest guest
Gladys, Thank you for this wonderful site! My MIL cannot dress herself and cannot lift her arms very much at all. She has very limited movement and most of her clothes are pullover styles. I'm sure this will help her and her caregiver a great deal. I will also have some suggestions for family members who ask what to get her for Christmas! I do have a related question: does anyone else have this experience that we do with MIL? Her movement is severely limited. She can barely walk by herself and can't really perform any self-care. However, when she's having one of her " spells, " she is all over the place. She climbs all the way across her king-sized bed, gets undressed and rummages through her dresser drawers for clothes, and is all over the house (thank God it's a ranch style house!)doing things. One night she was making coffee and sandwiches for the " men who are working outside " at 10pm on a Saturday. I don't understand it. Thanks, > > I keep forgetting to tell you about this WONDERFUL resources. During the > last three weeks of Mom's life, she had a catheter in and could no longer > raise her arms over her head. Guest guest
I would like to also support Buck & Buck (www.buckandbuck.com) as a great resource. When my Mother needed what is called 'snap back' or 'adaptive' clothing, the nursing home where she lived suggested Buck & Buck's clothing. I loved the velour pantsuits! They washed great in the nursing home laundry (I lived 1100 miles away) and she always looked great and was warm. I bought several in different colors. I later discovered Silvert's (www.silverts.com), which is based in Canada. Their clothes are more expensive, but are also of excellent quality. They offer more variety and design options. I bought many things from them when my Mother was alive. Their catalog changes twice a year. The snap back or adaptive clothing is found in their 'Alzheimer's' section. Guest guest
LOL That is why I looked. My kids all hunt and it does sound like a hunting store. Hugs, Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.
