Guest guest
First of all a belated Happy New Year to all! I have a new patient, M82, former farmer and sometimes still helps his son on the farm, mostly just tractor driving, suffering from dizziness for the past 11 years, starting with intermittent bouts and now more or less continuous. There are no other associated symptoms, deafness, tinnitus, nausea etc. He has seen an ENT consultant, had an MRI scan, and all tests have been negative. He feels a little unsteady, walks with a stick, has never fallen down and is able to drive. When about 17 he had a lower back injury and occasionally has twinges. At one point he started going to a chiropracter but it was too painful so he stopped. I have referred him to an osteopath. He has been to see a homeopath, reflexologist, chinese herbalist and kinesiologist/allergy tester about the dizziness but noone has been able to help him. GP prescribed cinnarizine but he only takes it occasionally. He had prostate problems with raised PSA but no medication given so he takes zinc and pumpkin seeds and no longer experiences any pain though has to get up a few times in the night to urinate. Also takes various supplements, B Vits, Mg, CoQ10. I am inclined to think it is orthostatic hypotension, as his blood pressure is (from memory) 100/70. He even asked if I thought it could be in his mind - poor chap. He's a very nice gentleman - but interestingly his wife said he gets a bit confused. I wondered abut TIA but there is no known history and nothing showed up on his tests If anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions please let me know. Best wishes Liz
Guest guest
Hi I'm sure you've already thought of this, but do you know if he's used organophosphates (or any other nasties) during his farming career? Farmers, unless they're strictly organic, can be exposed to all kinds of chemical agents, some of which have distinctly neurotoxic effects.
