Guest guest
, don't forget estrogen will help with your bones! I do not do well with calcium, by itself either, but am fine with 500 mg calcium as long as it comes along with other minerals. In other words I am taking a multi-mineral at night before I go to bed along with extra magnesium and 4000 iu of vit D. The vit D helps metabolize the calcium very nicely. Good luck, madeleenmenomama wrote: Hi Ladies, I'm 59 and on Oestrogel daily, cycling P each month. I am having a terrible time taking calcium. I have tried carbonate, chelate, Costo chews and they all seem to cause side effects. This seems crazy to me but I really notice how much better I feel not taking calcium. Has anyone heard of this and does anyone know of a calcium that doesn't interfere with hormones? I can actually feel the calcium blocking my hormones. I need calcium because I have osteopenia. Thanks and have a great Easter. Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
Thanks Madeleen, So what you're saying is you take only 500 mg. of calcium daily, only at night, which is mixed in with your multivitamin mineral daily pill, and you take your Vit. D at the same time? Where do you get your multi mineral that has 500 of calcium in it? Is it calcetrate calcium or carbonate? Aso, where do you get vit D at that large dose. Is it anRx, or just from say GNC? Do you feel side effects from D? Why do you ake calcium at night? I think my multi might keep me awake at night because it's potent in B vitamins which give you a burst of energy. Thanks again, > Hi Ladies, I'm 59 and on Oestrogel daily, cycling P each month. Guest guest
, You are correct I take my calcium (part of a multi mineral which contains 500 mg of calcium) at night so I can sleep better. Mine has no vit B in it. Vit D is a calcium metabolizer and so I take them both before bed. I take Multi Mineral from NutriBiotics ( I buy it at Super Supplements). I do not know if that is the best multi mineral in town, but it suits my purpose. I read a book by Appleton PhD and heard her speak: she said take calcium in combo with the other minerals to get best absorption. Her book is called Healthy Bones. Makes sense to me. I have also heard other docs talk about 500 mg/day being enough. Too much calcium can actually leach calcium from the bones. I do take extra magnesium at night for my charlie horses in the leg. I have no effects from the vit D, but then I am asleep most of the time while it is doing whatever its doing. Taking estrogen for the last 2 yrs had actually improved my osteopenia. I am not in the normal range for my age eventhough I still have some bone loss. Yeah for E. madeleen menomama wrote: Thanks Madeleen,So what you're saying is you take only 500 mg. of calcium daily, only at night, which is mixed in with your multivitamin mineral daily pill, and you take your Vit.
