Hi Janet: I enjoy reading your postings. I think I might have mislead you about the sarcastic people. There weren't that many. I think maybe one or two that didn't like the way Steve was doing things and kept wanting to make uncomplimentary comments. As a whole the group was always very nice and interesting.

The only reason I hadn't written in a long while was because (WELL---I DON'T REALLY KNOW - I just didn't take the time to write although I kept reading the postings and enjoying them. I keep very busy (DOING NOTHING - HA) I have hobbies that I like to work on. I love making things using Christian graphics and Scripture. I do a lot of typing for the church I go to. I type up the Sunday School Lesson/Bulletins and print out however many copies I need. I always do a special front page using some kind of beautiful picture with Scripture or something like that. We don't have a very big church so most of the time I make about 40 copies and couples share. I work at the post office as a postmaster relief - which means I work every Saturday and then whenever the postmaster wants to take time off. I have 5 sisters and 4 brothers and lots of nieces and nephews so I keep busy with them also.

I will make more time for my friends on here now that I am back into it.

We had a beautiful day here today. It is 62 degrees right now and it's JANUARY. We haven't had any REAL cold weather and hardly any snow. There is nothing predicted for the next few days.

Have a good evening - Shirley from Southern Illinois

enjoying the off topics very much and I hope you keep it up

Hello Shirley,

I was not here when the mean and sarcastic people were but I am so glad they are not here now. I have never understood why some people seem to have to be that way online. Are they that way in their "real" life as well or do they simply come online and say all the nasty things they don't dare to say to real people. It's sad, I have seen them ruin some lovely groups

Amazing how people think they can come in and tell someone how to run their own group isn't it? BTW, where is Steve anyway? After that long post that got a week or so ago, we have not heard from him have we?

He seems to come on very sporadically these days. I think it had something to do with being busy with other projects, and maybe computer access as well. Maybe a little communication burnout, as well. I find that there are times (like now) when I just cannot seem to shut up, and other times when I can just not bring myself to post a comment. At those times, ususally, my self esteem is low (or realistic) and I cannot imagine that I have anything to say that anyone else might possibly want to read.

Steve reminds me in very many ways, physically, intellectually, and emotionally of my older son (a major reason that I followed his journey, in fact was made aware of him by my son). Both obviously deal with depression. My son has also been diagnosed as mildly bipolar, and I have often wondered if Steve may also deal with this. That would explain his ups and downs that we have heard him relate more than once. Steve is so often going to conquer the world, then will retreat and not be heard from. My husband was never diagnosed, but everyone who knew him well agrees that he was almost certainly bipolar. He was brilliant and capable, and everyone expected marvelous things of him, but just when he would be on the verge of great things, would throw in the towel and sabotage himself. He was a government scientist, and was fortunate to have people who learned to work with and around him and thus save him from himself to some extent. It is sad to think of how much more he could have been and done, but he still contibuted much. I think Steve is capable of great things, and if he needs help in this area, I hope he gets it soon.

Oh, , don't fool yourself. You're brillant in so many ways, including your great heart. Believe that, please, and feel good about yourself. I'm only saying this because it's true.

Thanks for the kind words, Elaine. They mean a lot coming from you, because you come across as wise, compassionate and endlessly fascinated with life. I come away so often taking inspiration from what you have written.

Gee, thanks, . Now I'm thinking we should never meet. I'd rather you keep the image of me that you now have, lol.

Take care, and thank you.

,

One of my dearest friends is bipolar and we have known each other since we were very young. Over the years I have seen her through many episodes and I have seen her also go through those spells, as so many people with this condition do, where she simply refused to take medication. (did you ever see the movie with Geer called Mr. , I believe, where he plays a manic depressive who refuses to take medication because he will not give up the highs just to cure the lows?)

Fortunately for my friend, she has married an incredibly understanding and patient man who stands by her through thick and thin and because of him it has been a long LONG time since she stopped taking her medication. But I have watched her descend into the depths of Hell with this condition and stood by powerless to stop it in any way. It's a horrible road to have to travel and I have deep empathy for those who walk this path.
