Guest guest
Hi Liz, I’m just wondering why the woman wishes to restore her periods when amenorrhoea is natural during breastfeeding? Usually though, the periods re-start when the breastfeeding tapers off, which I imagine it would have after 2+ years! I would think that herbs may be useful in gently encouraging the body toward regaining normal cycles. I wouldn’t think they’d act against the breastfeeding. This is just my instinctive sense of things. The person in question is not intending to change or stop the breastfeeding so I feel that there is not much I can do, because herbs to restore normal menstruation will be acting against the hormones controlling the breastfeeding mechanism - not only that, but the daughter will be taking them in in the breastmilk.I am putting forward this post as I may well be wrong about this so would be interested in having others' views before saying I can't help.I think her daughter is 2 or 2 1/2 - not sure.Liz
Guest guest
HiI agree. Best not to treat what is normal. No harm though in supportive treatments in view of duration of breast feeding. Such herbs will be perfectly safe for baby (or small child as they are now :-). )Regards GascoigneDr GascoigneMedical doctor, acupuncturist, herbalist+44 (0) 79 88 05 92 01 ( UK)+353 (0) 87 9266234 (Ireland) Hi Liz, I’m just wondering why the woman wishes to restore her periods when amenorrhoea is natural during breastfeeding? Guest guest
Hi Liz, Chinese herb Mai Ya is frequently used in China to reduce excessive breast milk or 'dry up' breast milk as required. I echo the comments of others that it's probably not wise to interfere in a natural process. However something like this that 'regulates' may have effects in the right direction, but only if breast milk is excessive.Lorraine Lorraine Hodgkinson MRCHMHERBS AND HELPERS6, Butts Fold, Cockermouth,Cumbria, CA13 9HY. Guest guest
I have a number of friends who found that periods returned once the child was night weaned (so feeding doesn't need to completely stop, just at night!). If she's really keen on another child (usually the reason for wanting periods to return!) she might be open to reducing just night feeds... Guest guest
Emphasis was on a route to possible safe regulation as requested. Echoed by Schia's experience. Barley sprouts are food based, regarding herb concerns. I think I'll start giving more explanation in my answers!LorraineLorraine Hodgkinson MRCHMHERBS AND HELPERS6, Butts Fold, Cockermouth,Cumbria, CA13 9HY. Guest guest
Thank you all for your input. I am seeing this person during the week, but from what I can gather she wants another child, but she is also very depleted and run down. Don't suppose anyone has had any brilliant ideas re my elderly gentleman with dizziness? I've started to treat him for general kidney deficiency - both in Western terms and from the very little I know of TCM. He has seen chiropracters, kinesiologists, homeopaths, Chinese herbalists etc etc and noone has been able to help. Liz
