Hi Marilyn....

Side effects.....yeah, had similar feeling when I looked up Gentamycin...vertigo & loss of hearing (irreversible), nausea, vomiting, ataxia, nystymus, renal failure...... Makes you wonder which is worse, the problem or the cure? Talk about being between rocks and hard places! Do you think the neuro-symptoms are side-effects from previous medication?

Re flutter and acapella..... the Flutter I bought sounds more like your description of acapella, it is about the size of a ventolin puffer, has a removable cover and single stainless steel ball (~ size of a large marble) which vibrates when breathe into it. For a small & unassuming device it seems expensive at $157 (Aus$) but have found it works wonders, along with saline nebs, in helping loosen and get rid of stuff I don’t think has moved in a decade! - also saves me lots of exhaustion, sore and fatigued muscles too! I lie down comfortably the couch, relax and just spend up to 10-15 mins breathing into it normally – don’t need to do full expiration, gunk comes up w/ little or no effort on my part. I guess it all depends on individual sputum production – if it’s not much, then equally it’s not such an issue...

At last, something of a win at meeting on Friday - apology & admission of lack of due process, failure to investigate, or notify me. There is some satisfaction too in knowing that this has shown a loophole in policy which is now under review. The State’s health services have gone overboard in staff protection from aggressive behaviour by patients/clients – which is needed when there are people around drunk, on drugs etc... There are huge posters everywhere “Zero Tolerance....” my comment was that it has to go both ways, there have to be safety for patients against the damage a health worker can do by misuse of confidential information, misuse of their power etc.

I’ll believe it when I see it in writing, and, sadly, I guess there’ll be the usual face-saving and scapegoating.... But at least seems there’s a change of direction, thanks very hugely to the staunch efforts of several people in the system and several friends also in other areas of health system.. I don’t like to think where I’d be by now if it weren’t for their support, and my housemate – who has turned out to be an absolute rock. It’s a hard situation, two friends sharing rent....for one person to find themselves almost a carer....(this I now realise was core of stress some months back)..

I went up to our community nursery today, did a bit of potting up, and a bit of shopping yesterday with no ‘dizzy turns’ or anything so it feels like side-effects are diminishing and potassium levelling out....much to my relief!! So am at last able to enjoy our gorgeous weather before it’s too hot again in a few months!

Hope you’re well as can be and enjoying your summer months....

Joy,

So good to hear from you. Your life sounds so different from mind, and yet, I feel we have a connection, like minds, I don't know.

Anyway, it sounds like you have had a rough time, but are seeing the positive aspects of the situation. I find that always works.

We have a presidential election this November. Republican, McCain, and Democrat, Barack Obama. Historically the democrats have pushed for a national health plan. However it doesn't sound like it is always so great. My daughter, who I share my home with, gets free health care for her three children from the state. It seems that government run programs can really mess things up.

Just a little rant.

Best wishes to you,
