Guest guest
Are you seeing a fertility doc? At your age, you really don't have a lot of time to waste. It seems to me that you're not getting the mid-cycle increase in estrogen and progesterone and may need help during those times. A fertility doc would know better than anyone here, I think. Val -----Original Message----- From: rhythmicliving [mailto:rhythmicliving ] On Behalf Of I'm in need of some serious help. I'm 39 and feeling awful (chronic headaches not migraines) and having many symptoms of low progesterone and/or estrogen/testosterone but don't fit the menopausal profile. I usually feel the worse for the first 2-3 weeks of my cycle! I also got married and would like to get pregnant asap. I'm on cortisol and armour thyroid and just began compounded prog. cream two months ago and began feeling bettter after two months of use. My periods were always on time (28 days) until beginning the cream. After two months on the cream, my period came after " 2 weeks " . And the past year, it's been rather light. Can anyone help interpreting my blood labs that were taken prior to beginning the cream? I'm not clear on the phase that I was in and notice how the lab changed the words in the ranges for estradiol. completed on 7 day of cycle: Progesterone = <0.5 follicular phase: <1.4 luteal phase: 3.3 - 26.0 mid-luteal phase: 4.4 - 28.0 Estradiol = 122 follicular phase: 11-212 mid cycle: 18-480 luteal phase: < or = 247 ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------ completed on 14 day of cycle: Progesterone = 0.6 follicular phase: <1.4 luteal phase: 3.3 - 26.0 mid-luteal phase: 4.4 - 28.0 Estradiol = <7 follicular phase: 11-212 mid cycle: 18-480 luteal phase: < or = 247 These both look very low to me. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------ completed on 21 day of cycle: Progesterone = 20.8 follicular phase: <1.4 luteal phase: 3.3 - 26.0 mid-luteal phase: 4.4 - 28.0 Estradiol = 183 follicular phase: 11-212 mid cycle: 18-480 luteal phase: < or =
Guest guest
Well, that was my next step. I'm seeing an alternative/complimentary medicine doctor who treats many women with hormone imbalances but I don't think he understands fertility. Guest guest
Your day 21 P without progesterone cream (20.8) doesn't look like a call for progesterone cream!!! If I read that correctly. It is very common for alternative practitioners to advocate the use of P cream. Dr. Vliet says she often finds young women with not enough E rather than not enough P. When I was 39 I went to Dr. Vliet's clinic in Dallas. My E at the beginning of my cycle was menopausal. On day 21 my P was fertile myrtle high!! The solution was birth control and oral E, t4 and t3 (they dx me as autoimmune thyroid) I was told to up my E and P dose until I stopped bleeding. I couldn't stop bleeding, got scared and went to a local women's health person in Austin. The alternative practitioner announced (in spite of my blood tests) that I was E dominant. !! grrrr that damn Lee book !! She convinced me I needed to use P cream. I did, and at first it seemed good and I thought all was well. My periods got so they were nearly not there. This after a lifetime of 28-29 day cycles. At some point I lowered the P dose and muddled along. I switched to Armour and t3. I realize now after doing the WP that I was P overdosed and the allergies for the first time in my life showed up then after using the P cream for about 4 months. I eventually decided to have another babe and conceived immediately at the age of 40. I think one of the helps for that was that I was getting enough t3. It wasn't the P. I was easily fertile before I ever touched the stuff. I had loads of low E symptoms for years before conceiving - actually all my life from puberty onwards. Your situation could be very different, but good idea to use caution about P cream when you are seeing such high day 21 P even before the P cream --- looks like fertility to my understanding. BTW, were you tested for thyroid antibodies before getting on Armour? Dr. Vliet's books and podcasts are fantastic. Her clinics solution wasn't great for me and I wasn't willing to pay to fix things, but I think her educational work is outstanding. Website is herplace.com Laurel > Well, that was my next step. Guest guest
I'm taking the P when my labs showed low and stop around the17th day. Doesn't that make more sense? Then again, I was also very low in estrogen too at that time, so he should have given me a little of that to take too! I don't know but your story is very interesting. I do have thyroid antibodies (hashi's) that showed up on a saliva test before beginning Armour. I introduced T3 after not getting the results from Armour and still didn't feel well. The P cream made a difference so far, but then the periods are getting out whack and too close together! I'd hate to have to see another doctor for this. My doctor will probably give me estrogen but I wish I could find a doctor that can look at all my hormones together, but none of them understand them all except for Vliet. Guest guest
Your P is supposed to be low, low until ovulation. I don't trust saliva tests for hormones, especially if you're using transdermal P cream. It seems to be unduly excreted in the saliva glands. Here's some reading for you: http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/182_05_070305/wre10534_fm.html Here's a picture of what your hormones are supposed to be doing throughout the cycle: http://www.wyosip.com/cycle.jpg Note that first half, P is low. If your saliva tests are correct, you're probably missing the burst of E2 at mid-cycle. Guest guest
I had blood testing not saliva testing for P and E.
