Guest guest
I have been practically grain free for a month, and my husband also. I have been sharing the grain-free links with some patients and my older children. One young woman has a 3 year old with excessive saliva, so much so that he constantly has to wear bibs which his mother changes about 3-4 times a day as they become soaked. A colleague of mine suggested a diet low in amines and salicylates and within 3 days his saliva dried up, and his constant wakefulness at night stopped. When she reintroduced amines and salicylates the the excessive saliva and night time waking returned. When I shared the grain free, high vegetable, good fats regime with the Mum of this toddler, she noticed that a lot of the foods recommended couldn't be given to her son, such as berries, avocado, coconut, nuts, broccoli, any left over meats or veggies, [! mainstay of my diet] and tinned fish. Oh and lots more stuff! Put a paleo diet together with and amine/salicylate-free diet and you are left with a VERY small range of foods. I can understand why it is hard for some people with specific problems in themselves or their children to put all the dietary needs together and cook family meals. My colleague feels that most health problems are caused by this amine/salicylate sensitivity, and she has had remarkable and instant success with the 3 year old. Has anybody else recommended the amine-free diet, and is the science behind it good? I am new to such in-depth dietary control and for the past 3 years have been advising my patients to eat wholemeal grains and oils so I have a lot of catching up to do....
