Guest guest
I want to add another monkeywrench to the figuring of the incidence of CHARGE. I'm sure a lot of figures exclude those kids who were aborted because ultrasound showed severe birth defects. I've talked to many parents who were told by the OBs to abort based on the heart defect alone (being something complex like missing an entire chamber). The sad apart about it is, the parents who refused to take no for an answer came to Children's Hosp here in Pgh (CHP), and the CT surgeons were able to save their babies' lives (like the missing chamber). It was an ugly, rough road, and maybe (though it's not for me to say) some children are better off not having to face this road, but what's sad, is that many parents didn't know their baby had a chance in the right hands. CHP is filled with families who were told during pregnancy their baby didn't have a chance, but the baby goes home with them. I guess the doctors are trying to spare the baby all the pain and difficulties of many surgeries. Jeanne
