Guest guest
Steffi, Patty has tourettes. She tics with flailing her hands mostly but sometimes they can be big and be almost whole body and a nasal clearing sound. She started around 7 or 8. She is on medication for it. When she started I thought they were seizures. We struggled for years to find the correct medication. She was on something called Risperdal but it made her so tired. We have lowered the dose of that and have her also on something also called Quanfacine. The combination of the two seems to have worked. Add to that she has finally gone into the puberty deal. All this has lowered the amount of ticking. One thing though, stress makes them worse. I have found tourettes to be extremely rare in children with CHARGE. I was told it does come from an area of the brain where other things do such as OCD and ADHD. There are also other reasons children can do things that look like tics, for example a change in medication, nutrition or they could just be stimming. There could be so many other reasons, but a neurological checkup isn't a bad idea. Bonnie
Guest guest
Ticks are really common, not just in CHARGERs, but for our kids they are tied in to the self-stim stuff. Watch when he's sleeping. If he does it in his sleep, then I'd have it checked out just to be sure. If not, I doubt that there is a problem. Tim Hartshorne, father of . Guest guest
Karlee has experienced a (slight) head tick. It has appeared for a few weeks at a time and then disappeared completely. HANDLE explained it as being a reaction to a readjustment in balance points in the body. (possibly) Everytime something new appears in our children we become alarmed that its going to be something significant ... we've been conditioned. from IL (Karlee 11)
