Guest guest
http://www.sevensidedcube.net/health/2010/kellogg-called-for-misleading-health-claims-on-product/ Kellogg, the world’s leading producer of cereal, has once again been called by the Food and Drug Administration for making ‘misleading’ claims on the front of one of its bestselling cereals, Rice Krispies. The advertisement was that the cereal improved children’s health, but it has not been backed up with scientific research and evidence. The scenario was much like last year when it claimed that Frosted Mini Wheats improved children’s attentiveness. Kellogg tried to make a case, saying right on the front of the box that the toasted-rice cereal “now helps support your child’s immunity,” and “25 percent Daily Value of Antioxidants and Nutrients – Vitamins A, B, C, and E.”, and on the back the cereal said that it “has been improved to include antioxidants and nutrients that your family needs to help them stay healthy.” The Federal Trade Commission got in the way for Kellogg as this was the second time in a year that there were misleading health claims on their products. As an effect, Kellogg is now barred from making claims about any health benefit of any of their food products UNLESS the claims are backed by scientific evidence and are not misleading.
