Guest guest
Bruce, Take this device and, instead of a treadmill, provide an exercycle base instead. Also, my thoughts are to harness the energy created from the peddaling and store the energy into a UPS to provide power for a power outlet that will feed a standard PC (wired or wireless) and the LCD dual display TV / monitor. I noticed that one of the designers is from Mayo, which happens to be a client I service, so I wonder if I can trace through the connections and help them design the exercycle workstation. Who knows, maybe if I can help with the prototype, I can save the $6.5k price? Happy New Year, everyone! ...And let the 2008 BFL'ing resume! Someday soon, I will be back up and running with my system... I hope! Enjoying 2008, I remain... Recommitingly yours, And remembering to... " Focus on Progress, NOT Perfection! Guest guest
Andy, Bruce ( & everyone), As a person that suffers from knee joint problems, I've done a little more thinking (and visual research) on the potential use of these stand-up desk units. The concerns I have are as follows... As long as the body is using the muscle to support the stance, they are a good thing. The trouble I see is that the strongest of muscles eventually fatigue and I have noticed the tendancy for those that now stand at their work (cashiers, machine operators, sales clerks, etc.) is to lock their knee joints and rest their body weight on their bone structure; NOT employing the quad & calf muscles. I see this lending itself to additional knee and maybe hip joint problems in the future and NOT necessarily a stonger, healthier body. Now a plug for my exercycle workstation idea... If you consider my exercycle workstation, aside from there being less impact on the knees (sitting & cycling versus standing or treadmill walking), there would be the option of allowing the muscles to relax from time to time and yet still be able to readily resume the peddaling. As I have continued to refine specifications for this exercycle workstation, I am slowly convincing myself to seek out some other players in the marketplace to actually build one of these units. If someone knows the way to fast-track this engineering idea, I am all ears. Thinking of all this exercise is not helping me get back on the BFL wagon. Now, I think I will need to actually do some exercise. Loving the new year, I remain... BFL'ingly yours,
