Guest guest
HI jean Treated a man with dogbite some years ago. It was several days old when he came to see me - and was 'weeping' according to my notes. Red, hot, swollen, painful. Unfortunately I didn't record what it was weeping. Applied slippery elm poultice. Used Calendula, hypericum, Commiphora externally in tincture. so nothing unusual. I'd consider adding Anemone pulsatilla and maybe Hydrastis. Always use Anemone in boils etc. He was prescribed Augmentin which he didn't want to take. Cleared up nicely. No scars. Wish I'd taken before and after photos but how often do I wish that. Hope she's better soon. > > hi everyone, > > any advice appreciated please. My partner was bitten by a dog on > Saturday night. Guest guest
Hi Many years ago my right wrist was punctured by a cat bite: quite nasty. It resolved within three days by my taking massive doses of vitamin C (9-10g/day in divided doses), zinc 50mg bid, homeopathic Ledum (can't remember the potency; would have been 6C or 30C) and heroic doses of Echinacea. There may have been more but, as mentioned, this was years ago. Anyway, just wanted to mention the Ledum and vitamins, beyond the herbal suggestions made by others. Good luck! Kerry hi everyone, any advice appreciated please. My partner was bitten by a dog on Saturday night. Puncture wound just above the wrist area - quite deep. We used a poultice with anti-infectives etc for first eight hours to make sure any infection was drawn then soaked the area in a mixture of anti-infective tinctures. since then we have been using a mixture of soaking/bathing in tinctures and also e.o. lavender. Interesting within twenty mins of soaking in lavender e.o. the wound then started oozing pus and this continued for about two hours in small amounts. Up until this point the forearm from the wrist to half way up to elbow was very red/inflammed/tight and extremely painful. After the pus was removed the whole area has felt much better and has improved. I'm still not happy with the speed of improvement though. The area is still red and slightly tight. She has to cover it for work, which increases the inflammation, but this improves when she removes the dressing. I've obviously been very careful monitoring for any "tracking" and obvious sign of infection or cellulitis. It does seem to be getting better but I wonder if anyone else has any advice to help. I'm aware that inflammation is a process of healing which i've been trying to not reduce too much and thereby reduce the efficiency of this, but i'm just wondering how long I should expect this to continue. Look forward to anyone's experience Jean -- Kerry Hackett, MNIMH, AHG, OHA Medical Herbalist www.kerryhackett.ca
