Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome - yes, I still have the filly and mare - and that filly will be 2 in May. I am so attached to her, I don't know if I'll sell her or not - but she would make a great barrel horse as she is quite the athlete...jumping the gate from a flat footed stance when startled by the alpha horse the other day. I was reading all the posts on Ibis (es?), not sure the plural of that...and wanted to share that there is a tremendous walking place in Beaumont, Texas...with thousands...yes thousands...of shore birds and miles of walking on the levees around the holding ponds. I was lucky enough to get a great shot of two ibis (es?) but I've also seen storks, pelicans, and pink flamingos there - which I've never seen flamingos outside of a zoo. If anyone is interested I'd be happy to take them there...I'm an hour from Beaumont. I am walking in the woods now, as I live in the heart of the Big Thicket, that isn't very thick anymore due to logging and replanting only pine. I can even ride horses thru the trails...when it's not deer season. I do have in my yard, though a 500 year old magnolia tree that is huge. I guess my totem animal is a dog, as everytime something happens to me another dog shows up at the farm. I am still grieving over Tick, my foxhound that disappeared before I moved...he would love it here in the woods. The rain is coming , if not already there - been raining all night and day.... Guest guest
It is the middle of the night, Beth, and I cannot wait until morning to share with Becca about the shore there and the birds. I have heard that off the coast of Texas is a birding paradise. I knew that flamingos had naturalized in south Florida, but did not know that they were also in Texas. It sounds like an experience to remember. That is not such a terrible drive from here, so I think we, at some point, would love to take you up on the offer to show it to us. I am thrilled to hear that your filly has turned out so well. She was such a cutie as a foal. So sorry to hear about the loss of your Tick. They can surely take a piece of your heart away with them when they go. It sounds like you are in a wonderful place, which makes me so happy for you. Looking forward to hearing all that you are doing, what you are reading, etc. W Ibises (?) and Walking Thanks for the welcome - yes, I still have the filly and mare - and that filly will be 2 in May.
