America has a love affair with artificial fragrance and products that contain scents, even if they are nothing more than poisonous chemicals. The amount of artificial fragrance that goes into the average household in America is absolutely astounding. It’s found in all sorts of products but one of the most common are dryer sheets.

As it turns out, dryer sheets are absolutely loaded with artificial fragrance. In fact, they serve more of a function of perfume sheets than any other practical function in the dryer.

A far safer solution to having scented clothes coming out of the dryer would be to follow this simple recipe and make your own dryer sheets!

When people use dryer sheets, they are coating their clothes with a thin film of artificial chemical perfumes. Just like other perfumes, a person’s sensitivity to these perfumes decreases over time to the point where they don’t even notice how potent these artificial fragrance chemicals are.

None of this would be interesting if it weren’t for the fact that these fragrance chemicals are extremely toxic to humans, pets and the environment.

They are known carcinogens.

They cause liver damage and cancer in mammals.

In fact, the only way they are approved for use in consumer products is that there is an underlying, but false assumption by the FDA and other regulator agencies that cosmetic products such as shampoo, deodorants, creams, laundry detergents, and soaps don’t pose a health risk because their chemicals are not absorbed through the skin. Or, through the sinus cavities.

In other words, there is a much lower threshold of danger assumed with cosmetic products versus foods and beverages. It is assumed that chemicals put on the skin don’t necessarily penetrate the skin. This assumption is incorrect.

Learn more about making the switch away from poisonous products.

Nearly every chemical that touches the skin finds its way into the body and into the bloodstream.

As a result, wearing toxic fragrance chemicals is actually quite similar to eating them. These toxic chemicals would never, of course, be approved as safe food ingredients due to their toxicity. Many are registered as EPA toxins. Nearly all are listed in the government RTECS database of toxic chemicals. Yet they are, for some reason, allowed to be used in consumer products simply because it is assumed they pose no hazard to human health.

A rigorous examination of the toxic chemicals used in artificial fragrance, such as over-the-counter perfumes, has turned up shocking reports showing as many as twenty-three identifiable carcinogenic compounds.

This means that these fragrance products contain not just one cancer causing agent but potentially dozens.

That’s why using dryer sheets or even laundry detergent with fragrance is extremely bad for your health.

Years ago, people argued with the very idea that such chemicals could be absorbed through the skin. They said the skin is a strong barrier against external agents. Otherwise, they explained, the body would be invaded be bacteria and viruses on a daily basis.

But then along came the nicotine patch and other federally approved drugs and consumer products that worked on the very premise that drugs can be absorbed through the skin. In fact, if chemicals weren’t absorbed through the skin, the nicotine patch wouldn’t work at all.

Today, even though it is obvious to any intelligent person that chemicals are quite easily absorbed through the skin, there’s no general recognition that products that come into contact with the skin of consumers could pose a potential health hazard, so look them up and see for yourself.

A person who uses dryer sheets or laundry detergent with fragrance [or any other product containing "fragrance"] is actually coating their clothing in a layer of chemicals that will be easily transferred to their skin the next time they put on those cloths and start to perspire. The wetter your body becomes, the more easily the chemicals can move from clothing into your skin.

Since many of these chemical compounds are by themselves solvents, they are rather good at moving through cellular membranes and entering tissues of the body, including nervous system tissues.

This is why intelligent consumers who wish to protect their health avoid brand name dryer sheets, laundry detergents, and even perfumes and colognes that are all made with toxic fragrance chemicals that can cause cancer, liver disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and many other chronic diseases.

Fragrance actually dulls the mind and the senses.

Whereas using therapeutic-grade essential oils provides dozens,

if not hundreds of benefits.

I had told my son who works outdoors pulling evasive weeds for the forest service that pennyroyal will keep the mosquitoes away, I have some growing on my land and showed him what it looks like, he said that he saw some growing in the forest wild here, so him and his friends used it one day while they were working. They rubbed the plant all over the exposed areas of their skin, he said it worked, both him and his friend were free off mosquitoes for a while, till they got all sweaty and the essence ran out.Sp perhaps you can get some Pennyroyal oil Marty, and see if it works for you too. Pennyroyal is knowns to keep away flees and ants too. Great to grow in front of your homes.MicheleHere's a search...............http://www.google.com/search?aq=f & sourceid=chrome & ie=UTF-8 & q=Pennyroyal+oil--- On Wed, 9/1/10, Joyce Hudson <bjoyful@...> wrote:From: Joyce Hudson <bjoyful@...>Subject: Re: [health] Warning – dryer sheets contain cancer causing chemicalshealth Date: Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 3:41 PM

I have never used deet, or off so I don't know how it works, sounds extreme because its a pesticide, or a derivative of something that may cause nerve damage, like those flee shampoo they have out for pets. When I go camping or am outdoors at dusk, I wear long sleeves, top to bottom, and even a hood to cover my head. Sometimes I go to events here that I see and smell citronella candles burning around the areas we are in. People say they really work, but I have never tried it, I usually get inside if the wind is not blowing at night when I am home.I dislike mosquitoes, flies drive me nuts, we have sooo many here now, August is fly season. I hang my laundry out and they are all on our clothes, and come on me too. Then we have the wasps, that I am really allergic too, after being bitten 5 times the immunity is way

low, and I have gone into shock from the last bite. This yr they are not so bad, thank goodness. So this is why we call them "bugs" cause they Bug us way too much!Michele

Warning – dryer sheets contain cancer causing chemicals
