Guest guest
Debbie, Glad to hear all the positives about ! Keep us posted about those swallowing treatments in Cleveland, I'd like to hear how they go. Mom to Kennedy 22 mos old CHARGEr, 10, 8, and wife to Graeme New Brunswick, Canada Visit the " Weir homepage " at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palms/5716 ICQ #1426476 Re: About Hi, Haven't been on the list much as been very busy with three kids. Just wanted to announce that , now 2.5 yrs is walking. He can't walk outside yet, but on flat ground he is pretty good. He stands still now which is something we battled with for hmm.. a year? We had his first transition meeting with our school district - went very well. They already have him going to the school he is attending for early intervention, and we are very happy, it is the Lakedrive School in Mt. Lakes NJ, a school for the deaf and hard of hearing. He is doing extremely well there. Presently he attends a toddler class 2 hrs a day, 3 days a week, in addition to OT, PT and Speech Therapy. He now asks for apple juice in a cup and crackers (although he can't eat it), but he is very encouraged by the other kids. I think it is why he finally got up on his feet. He talks up a storm, and although I mainly am the only one who understands him, he signs really well. The public school's speech teacher asked me how many words he knows, I said I lost count when he was a year old. They were stunned, because he pretty much speaks/signs in phrases (his favorite one is " Mommy please help " ). I have to say that 2 years ago I didn't think he would be as far as he is, but with alot of work and his determination, he has become a really great kid. Medically, we are still battling the feeding issue (hence, where the gagging comes from - post nasal drip definitely and " dumping syndrome " from the fundo), but are awaiting an appointment at University Hospital in Cleveland to get the swallowing treatments that Wood had talked about in previous e-mails. For now, thank goodness for the g-tube, because with the proper nutrition, he is growing normally (still small though, 30 lbs, 35 inches). He completely understands that he is different (meaning he has a g-tube and we don't), and does have the want to eat, just right now he physically cannot swallow well.
