Link: Pseudo-Evidence Based Medicine Should be a Global Health ConcernWe have frequently advocated for evidence-based medicine (EBM) , that is, medicine based on judicious use of the best available evidence from clinical research, critically reviewed and derived from systematic search, combined with biomedical knowledge and understanding of patients' values and preferences. However, EBM risks being turned into pseudo-evidence based medicine due to systematic manipulation and distortion of the clinical research evidence base. Dr Wally wrote about pseudo-evidence based medicine, which he defined as "the practice of medicine based on falsehoods that are disseminated as truth," in the British journal Clinical Governance...I don't know how on-topic you will consider this, but it highlights an issue with which I have been encountering for many years as I try to improve my mental and physical health, namely that an awful lot of the health information I have encountered has eventually proven to be false. As I have investigated, I have seen evidence of extensive corruption of science, directly or indirectly, by "corporate interests."Autism research is in no way immune from this influence. I don't have any specific information about how it is affected, but one of my guiding principles is to be suspicious of "treatment focus" that does not seek to identify and correct or compensate for the cause.
