Subject: naphthalene: mothballs, restroom deodorizer, poor rodents

The National Toxicology Program recently published its 500th

two-year safety test of chemicals in rodents. Technical Report-500

is on ordinary naphthalene, the principle ingredient in mothballs

and used as a restroom deodorizer. Under the conditions of this

2-year inhalation study, there was clear evidence of carcinogenic

activity of naphthalene.
