Hi everyone, would really appreciate some fast advice for a pt who I've seen a

couple of times. Need to give her some feedback quickly. The quick version:-

58year old woman presenting with bilat wrist pain onset nov 05. She's a touch

typist who was given new keyboard which had stiff keys - persevered with this

but developed constant background pain and aching, with intermittent severe

flare-ups. Also, myalgia in arms and neck/shoulders.

MH at time of 1st consultation -

Valsartan

Cardura

Atorvastatin

Colofac

Flixotide

Ventolin

Fluticasone

Gaviscon

Soluble solpadeine

Deflatine

s salts

As you can tell from this list there are other problems (intermittent painful

stomach with associated bloating/colic and indigestion, asthma, rhinitis,

hypertension). What really stood out to me was the statin which she started

taking a few months before onset of wrist pain. We discussed this and she

subsequently did an interntet search on statins - horrified to find that the

side effects were pretty much what she was suffering from. She went to her GP

who immediately took her off the statins and sent her for blood tests. He didn't

tell her what he was testing for but I'm assuming it could be Creatine Kinase.

No results back yet. She's extremely difficult to take blood from and despite

several attempts they only managed to get a small amount. I've suggested she

start Co Q 10 but she's concerned this will alter any future blood test results.

I'm assuming that if this supplement helps restore normal cellular energy

levels, repair will improve and CK levels will drop - am I right? My point was,

does it matter what the blood levels are if she's feeling better.

Was also concerned by results of the multistix test I did on her urine -

specific gravity 1.000, pH 8.5, protein - trace. she had taken s salts

and the Movicol on the Tuesday night, I tested on the Thursday - could these

have been responsible for the pH? I've never had anyone with such a high pH

before - it turned dark green immediately, not a gradual change.

On the Rx I gave her she had experience some improvement in mood and GI Sx, but

myalgia hadn't changed (have only been treating her for 2 weeks.

I'm giving her

Chamomile

Filipendula

Astragalus

Dioscurea

Carduus 5ml tds. Also slippery elm caps

I'm aware that onset of statin use may be coincidental and have other

Differential Diagnoses in mind including RSI and Fibromyalgia.

Any advice re Co Q 10 use and insights into multistix test would be much

appreciated.

Best wishes to everyone for a very happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous

2007!

Hi Sue,

I have had several cases of Fibromylagia, and they take some time to

sort out. Basically, the key to treatment is to sort out her

digestion, but the drugs she is currently taking will play havoc with

her symptoms - what has the GP done to her?

I would also try light massage, you can administer Mahanrayan oil

from Pukka herbs and give her Guggul long term (there is no danger of

drug interaction), not to sur how CoQ 10 will help significantly.

You also need to take a close look at her diet, stop all Acidic food

and give her light stretching exercises for her wrist. To reiterate

her digestion is a real mess ( you will see if you check her tongue)

and definitely needs to be sorted out - also ask her if she is

constipated.

If I took her pulse I could be of more help to you - Sorry.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2007 from Down Under to all in the forum

Cheers
