Ok for the rice department, I have some suggestions.

Go to an Asian store and look for the Thai Jasmine Rice and the

Basmati Indian rice. they are fabulous.

you can find cans of the yellow curry lentils and pour them over some

basmati and it's fantastic. the Thai Jasmine is beyond fabulous for

stir fry.

if you're really adventurous, you can try to make the Thai Sticky rice

(not to be confused with japanese sticky rice). there are 3 kinds.

Purple, black & white. you can get the purple in whole grain and

steam it up and then micro it with little coconut milk & sugar (or any

other sweet ingrediant) and it is really good. I use the white for

eating with Thai Yellow curry.

there's these spice packets called Asian Home Gourmet and they are

pretty darn good. they are overpriced in regular supermarkets but the

asian market by us sells them for $1.79.

ok dont get me started on cooking asian and indian foods, i just love

them.

Thanks for this tip Laurie! I saw a new Asian market on the route I take to Sam's club (which I go to once a month to buy my Sam-e). I will stop in and see if they have it. since I stir fry so much, I can use some variety!

Sam's Club carries the Basmati rice in 20 pound sacks, and we keep it on hand. My daughter just said that they also carr

Thanks for the tip on Sam's. I am trying to switch over to Sam's from BJs because they have such a great price on Sam-e, but am not very familiar with them yet. So far, I prefer BJs but maybe I am just more familiar with them and don't want to pay to belong to both

i got all distracted and forgot to mention you need to buy a rice

steamer or use some sort of other contraption to steam the sticky

rice. you steam it until it's clearish and chewy, or in the case of

the black or purple, just until it's chewy.

if you want to make the coconut you let it cool down, spread it out on

a tray and let it dry out a little, then you pour the coconut milk &

sugar over the top and then microwave until it's soft again. i've

seen it done a few different ways but havent yet made it all by myself

yet. though i have made lots of the plain sticky rice.

definitely check out a vietnamese store. there's a lot of easy things

to make. the spice paste packets are really catching on and they are

easy to cook with.
