Guest guest
Hello on this ( finally ) sunny afternoon! I have a lady dx with an enlarged multi-noduled goitre with isolated T3 toxicosis. Consultant advising surgery, patient not keen. T4 and T3 only slightly raised. I am a bit confused as Px said TSH supressed so would the usual herbs such as Lycopus, etc still be indicated. Wisdom and suggestions greatly appreciated --
Guest guest
TSH is usually suppressed in thyrotoxicosis, due to negative feedback from thyroxine. This is what is preventing the T4 and T3 from being higher. I would still use Lycopus, etc to further reduce the pressure on the thyroid, and I also usually recommend brassicas and soya products (tofu, miso tempeh etc) to block the thyroxine production. Low oestrogen levels can also be a factor in thyrotoxicosis so it may also be worth looking at this. Hello on this ( finally ) sunny afternoon!
