Guest guest
This should help out a bit. If you it is your plan to do cardio, you can do this before breakfast. This optimizes the bodies ability use fat as energy, thus burning more. Never hit the weights before breakfast! In most cases, you won't have the energy to push through the workout. If you want an early weight workout, have a small breakfast, replacement meal, etc. Just get something in your stomach. I am sure someone else will add on to what I am saying. ~ kb8wfh wrote: I wonder if I might get a few opinions on an issue with my exercise and meal times. I know the ideal situation is to work out early in the morning, wait for a bit then eat breakfast. But that usually isn't possible for me with my schedule of responsibilities. Sometimes I can do a workout before breakfast, but usually not. I usually eat breakfast between 7:00-8:00 and I have time to do the weight training or the treadmill sometime between 9:00 and 10:00 but I never know exactly when. As such, what should I expect as far as results differences versus working out first thing in the morning before breakfast? Any recommendations or opinions for cutting out the mid morning snack/meal between breakfast and lunch? Would it be better for me to skip breakfast, do the workout at my 9-10 slot, then eat " breakfast " around 10:30? Thanks. Matt
Guest guest
Working out in the morning before breakfast forces the body to eat of stored fat and not the food you would eat throughout the day. You burn more body fat when working out on an empty stomach. If you want to lose fat, workout on an empty stomach. If you want to gain muscle, eat carbs before your workout. You should eat proteins with in a hour after working out on an empty stomach to prevent muscle breakdown. exersise/meal sched opinions I wonder if I might get a few opinions on an issue with my exercise and meal times. Guest guest
Thank you both for your help. Let me see if I have this right and my interpretation of what I am being told is accurate. On days when I need to do the cardio workout, do it before I eat. Thus, its better for me to skip an early breakfast, do my 20 min cardio workout between 9:00-10:00, then eat within an hour some protein " breakfast " then hold out for another meal until lunch. On days when I need to do weight lifting, eat breakfast, do my weight training in my free 9:00-10:00 time frame. How does this plan sound? Thanks again for your advice. Guest guest
The problem with this analogy is the fact your body is deprived of nutrients when you first wake in the morning. You should, at the least, consume a protein shake prior to a weight workout in the morning for several reasons: 1) Your body is in a catabolic state (feeding off the muscle) when you awake. Feed it. 2) To get a " good " weight workout, the body needs energy. Feed it. When you feel good, you maximize your workout. Cario: No food Weight: Protein prior to working out and a protein/carb combination up to 90 minutes after your workout. Like Angel said, your actual goal (fat loss, muscle gain, etc) will dictate what you need to do. ~ Angel Winters wrote: Working out in the morning before breakfast forces the body to eat of stored fat and not the food you would eat throughout the day. Guest guest
Matt, What are your actual goals? Your times look kind of late. Eating your first meal after 9 or 10 seems like a long time to go without a meal. Can you do it earlier? May I also suggest your ingesting some casein whey before bedtime. It is a slow digesting protein. At least your body will take a little longer before it goes into a catabolic state. ~ kb8wfh wrote: Thank you both for your help. Guest guest
Matt, I don't pipe in much but I've been around this board for 7+ years (joined at the same time as Andy). But I feel like putting my two cents in on this one.it's a matter close to me know because my schedule has changed as of late and I've had a heard time getting back into a routine that I'm comfortable with. I'm of the opinion that whenever it works best is when you should do it.especially if it will be the same time every day and you can really get into a habit.. Making it part of a normal routine is key. I have breakfast between 7 and 8 and workout whether it's cardio or weight training between 9 and 10 and it works fine for me. Personally I don't do well at all doing cardio first thing on an empty stomach. I have no energy and my legs feel like lead. You have to work it into your schedule where it feels right. Otherwise you won't stick with it. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Wow, my email reads like a second grader wrote it! A little too much going on at my house right now, I guess!! If I read that sentence that begins with: " it's a matter that's close to me. " out loud the way it's written, I sound like Travolta in Hairspray! Sorry for the typos! Guest guest
No No. You are not skipping breakfast. Do not skip meals. You should still be eating 5-6 small meals per day. If possible, you need to adjust your schedule in order to work in this routine. Because I am a single mother and do not have time to workout in the evening, I have to adjust my schedule for my morning cardio and do it at 4:00 in the morning. I drink a protein shake or have turkey bacon or egg white within the next hour and began to eat again when I get to work which is around 7:30. Do not skip meals. What time do you wake up? Do your cardio with in 15 minutes of waking up and then proceed from there. exersise/meal sched opinions > > I wonder if I might get a few opinions on an issue with my exercise > and meal times. > > I know the ideal situation is to work out early in the morning, wait > for a bit then eat breakfast. Guest guest
You'd even be okay consuming a protein shake before cardio. Really, the body isn't going to have enough time to process the shake as fuel unless it is full of sugar. If lots of sugars, then it could use immediately.
