Guest guest
Hi can anyone help me out with this, I have read the thread on pemphigus vulgaris but this condition only affects the MMs. The case is very interesting. This lady is a DES daughter, inother words hr mother was treated with this drug while pregnant with her, it was used to prevent miscarriage. When on her own second and third pregnancies she developed pemphigus gestationis, and had severe corticosteroid tx for 7 mths each time. When the child was a baby she developed severe oral thrush for 6 months, txin the usual orthodox way, then immediately errupted in herpetic blisters on her tongue, tx with aciclovir and then developed this MMP. The oral guy suspects it is an ADR to the steroids during pregnancy and she has been on loads of immunosuppresants and dapsone. All she is taking now is very low doses of prednisolone that is keeping it undr control although there are always excrutiatingly painful lesions. So if it is a reaction to steroids how can she recover while still taking them? To come off them would seem impossible tho, as outbreaks are exceedingly painful. Has anyone advice on this quandry? And what treatment strategy should be employed Thanks for any crumbs at all Niamh
