Hi Beth: It was 25 degrees here today and kind of dreary. We didn't have any rain or snow though. When we have this kind of weather----I love to read a good book. One of my brothers has all the Zane Grey books and he lives right next door to me. When we get this kind of weather he brings me a couple of books and I'm happy - HA. I like other books also - I love mystery books if they are not gory -- I just like trying to solve the mystery -- not all the gory details. Of course --- reading is not exercising -- I'm glad I have my dogs---they want AND need to go out even if it is raining. So I walk them and then when I come back in I can settle down with my book.

Shirley

I know I SHOULD exercise more but I'm really bad about doing it. I used to like to jump the rope for my exercise but I'm not supposed to jump anymore since I had both knees replaced and have the steel rods in there.

Boy, this weather is awful - it's been raining all week - I only walked

one day (monday) in between showers...and yesterday the temperature

hung around 38 all day - today it's hanging at 32...and it's pouring

rain...even thundering. What do ya'll do when you can't exercise??? I

am afraid I have been munching too much - just baked a chocolate cake

for a friend's birthday tomorrow...and the more I look at it the more I

want to cut into it....I HAVE CABIN FEVER! Beth

That's a tough one, there is more than chocolate cake at the indoor

mall, I hope my advice to walk in the mall is better than sitting at

home with cake stare. Maybe put a " happy face " on the cake, hope it

works for you regards Bill

i hear ya beth. it's been freezing cold here with hi temps in the low

30s to upper 30s and the wind has been howling. i'm so chapped.

i'm definitely stir crazy as well. there's mall near me so i dont feel

like driving 1/2 hour to go to the mall.

it's been so cold that i have been paying extra to park close to work.

they cook me all day at work, so i get tired of going through all

this extra work to bundle up and then strip down and bundle up again

on the way back to the car. we're expecting snow and/or ice this

weekend, they aren't sure if it will stay a couple of days or melt

right away. depends on which way the wind blows.

when it's cold i usually go to the gym, but i've been exhausted and my

husband hasnt been home much, so i dont feel like dragging the kid

with me.

for good news, i havent been sick for over a week.

but the norovirus is going around ethan's school, they had 2 pukers

today, so i'll see if he gets it this weekend.

have you gotten any snow with all that cold weahter?

Yea, I see the west coast is getting hit - even Ca. The mall is a good alternative if you live in the city, but me...being an hour from the closest mall...it is not practical - especially with fuel bills since I'm retired. Cost of living is really hitting me hard. The paltry $600 the gov't wants to throw at me - what am I going to do - buy stock with it? Anyway, hope you don't get Ethan's school's virus - I always seemed to get that virus when my kids were in daycare. It was awful...YUK - I don't want to think about it - it might make me get it - lol! No snow here...should be ice on the roads and trees in the morning...but amazingly it is going to warm up to 60 on Sunday. And Monday we should have sunshine...then more rain/cold is predicted. I ate 2 pieces of chocolate cake...1 enchilada...and made chili so had a bowl of chili. A few cheetos...and now I'm drinking a mimosa...I've definitely been a bad girl

today! Yes, you have the right idea - of course I do go out twice a day and feed horses - hay and grain...and I do let the dogs in and out (they sleep in the sunroom when there's no sun and it's cold) I do love to read too and highly recommend "The Glass Castle" which I just finished. Now reading "Water for Elephants." These are not mysteries, though - they are biographies. Oh and I also finished " Let's not go to the Dogs Tonight" about a woman growing up in Africa during aparteid and after apartied. Very good. Don't know why I love true stories...? But I miss going out and working in the barn...walking in the woods around my house...I just have to be moving sometimes....I guess I'm hyper. Stay warm - 25 sounds SOOOOO cold. Sunday is a hard day to be on program and ambitious. I started the day with whole grain pancakes topped with strawberries (which I do about every Sunday). I had some of my homemade vegetable soup for lunch, but then had shrimp scampi for dinner and finished it off with a Grand Marnier and a chunk of dark chocolate. Ok, I will get BACK on program tomorrow!

One of my issues with clothes is that at 5' 3" I should be able to wear petite they say. But for some reason my legs are longer then most short people, including my mom who is just half an inch shorter then I am but her legs are about 5 inches shorter. So I cannot get pants that fit me correctly in the butt and are long enough. And she can NEVER find pants short enough! Also I hate the short straight skirts. I like them mid calf and full. I have just about concluded I need to go back to making my own again but Blair has some nice ones in their catalog, so I may just get some from them.

Jane

well it snowed again, but melted over the course of a few hours, thestreets just barely froze and the main ones were thawed by 10am.i did go to the mall and walked 2 lengths of it. i really didnt getmuch walking in with the fam with me. but i did find some goodclothes, i'm afraid that i went up half a size in some of my thingsand with work cooking me all day, i cant wear any of my long sleeveswithout very nearly fainting from the heat. So i was on the quest forcool springwear. it was tough. I went to sears and few of the XL fitand then the woman's sizes start at 16, so not much fit. Other storesI have to buy a 1x or even a 2x but the proportions dont usually fitright. I had better luck at Macy's where their XL fit just fine on mostitems. sometimes it is a nice thing when stores put a smaller sizethan something really is on the clothes. one thing i'm irritated about is that the shorty stuff is still inexcept for the teen girl stuff. i'm tired of stuff that shows my gutwhen i lift my arms up. the other gripe is all the itchy or static-ypolyester stuff. doesnt breathe well either. so i'm still on the quest for some nice light weight cottons, or maybea couple of silks...i wish i could sew better, there were some nice light weight cottonsat the Avenue but they were long sleeve, i guess i should have boughtthem and had them altered.you all have any clothing issues as well?oh and i do have to say that I am excited to report that some of theREI stores now sell women's sizes 16 to 22. they used to stop at 12/14.Laurie> >> > Boy, this weather is awful - it's been raining all week - I onlywalked > > one day (monday) in between showers...and yesterday the temperature > > hung around 38 all day - today it's hanging at 32...and it's pouring > > rain...even thundering. a lot better than i ate! i had 1/4 of a waffle, dim sum for lunch,

and i ate a bad ole cinnamon roll which stopped tasting good after a

few bites, but did i give it up? nooooo....

i also has 1/2 of a jamba juice, which was very tasty. i may head to

the gym, i'm trying to get some gumption up to go do it. i'm tired,

sleepy and cold now. i'd really just like to go to bed for the night,

but it's too early, i'd probably wake up at 4am and not be able to go

back to sleep.

so i'm sitting here playing on the computer and trying to stay awake.

they adjusted the sizes a while back. i used to wear regulars and now

i have to buy shorts. they adjusted the sizes back when the 'average'

height of a woman went from 5'4 " to 5'6 " i think it was. so i went

from average to short about 5 or 6 years back.

i heard nordstroms will still alter your purchases for a reasonable

price (they used to do it for free). i havent tried it yet, because

only the main norstroms downtown has much my size and i dont go there

much. it's also hard to find anything for a decent price.

i know what you're saying about being differently proportioned. i have

a longer waist then most people my height, so shirts run shorter on me

then other people and rise up a lot more when i raise my arms.

Hmmmm..all that sounds scrumptious!

Scrumptious, but not conducive to weight loss. Ok, I got up and did 30 brisk minutes of the Walk Away the Pounds tape and this evening before my art lesson I will do light weights. Dr. Oz says, if you are not doing well with the food intake then FOCUS on the exercise! So while the weather is still cold and I still crave comfort foods, I am going to do that!

This never seems to be a good time to year to think about fitness - the cold makes you crave carbs and the lack of light makes you tired. Spring is when thoughts of fitness seem to come a lot more easily

target puts spandex in all their stuff now and has been selling all

the form fitting stuff, not my favorites except that they did have a

round of Merona t-shirts in XX that fit me really well. Cat & cooking

have taken care of most of them, so i'm hoping to go back and see if

they have them again. i'm trying to remember their season scheme,

they only have certain things at certain seasonal times, which is a

real hassle. I think they sell the long sleeves in the fall &

January, and maybe they haven't sold out of the short sleeves yet.

they tend only to get a small amount in stock and then sell out so

they don't have excess inventory.
