Guest guest
I am treating a 34 year old female patient with transverse myelitis who is currently taking Tegretol (Carbamazepine) for her symptoms. I am wondering if anyone has treated patients taking this drug as to be honest it scares me. I know I should avoid Ephedra and maybe very stimulating herbs and also SJW and that the drug may affect vitamin and mineral absorption, but are there any other cautions I should be aware of? I have started her briefly on a tea of Scut/Chamomile/Verbena/Rose as she is about to go into hospital for fibroid treatment. She cannot tolerate SJW anyway due to photosensitivity so I am considering Avena/Scut/Withania/Sambucus/Urtica - Not sure about Ginkgo with Tegretol. She is vegetarian and her diet seems to consist mostly of gluten and dairy so we will work on this and also her bowel flora and constipation. Her condition may be connected with chicken pox in late teens and she ticks many of the boxes for immune system disruption in recent years. I would be grateful for any advice. Many thanks Verity
