Guest guest
Lots of carrot soup - stops E coli adhering to the bladder wall. Add garlic, thyme, rosemary for an extra boost. Would appreciate advice for UTI in 6th month of pregnancy. First time Mum - a colleague, not a patient. Asymptomatic, picked up at routine clinic check. She'd prefer not to take anti biotics if possible. Despite practising for 6 years I've treated hardly any pregnant women - funny isn't it, how we attract some things and not others. Guest guest
I was lucky enough to be working at a traditional medicine project in Ecuador for a little while. One day a pregnant woman with a urinary tract infection came in . , a member of the indigenous Shuar community, prescribed with out hesitation, Ortiga, Malba and Cola de Coballo. I was listening and slowly translating the prescription in my head, and as I began to understand, nearly danced round the room in delight. It was mallow, nettle and horsetail! Or at least jungle versions(extra big and stinging, extra mucilaginous etc) of these familiar plants. The Shuar have no doubt been influenced by the western Spanish herbal medicine. But they also have a strong tradition of their own. I couldn't believe that a woman, who had learnt her plants so far away from where and how I'd learnt mine was giving out such a familiar and seemingly universal prescription I think had the patient not been pregnant, she may have been given something more exotic, or at least less familiar to me. Cat's claw perhaps. Anyway, that would be my suggestion to go with the other advice, safe , soothing, nourishing -and won't do any harm should it turned out to be just a slightly contaminated sample all along. Could you write it up as a centre-piece of an article about your experiences and send it up to the EJHM (if it is really publishing as we have been told) or similar? Guest guest
Cornsilk tea - really safe, really soothing and will help to cleanse the bladder through. Can be used as a tea and in the bath XX
