10.00—11.15 am Dr. Francis Brinker, ND.

Dr. Brinker is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Program in

Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Dr. Brinker also serves as

reviewer for the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia monographs, is an advisory board

member and consulting editor for the American Botanical Council.

He is author of:

Toxicology of Botanical Medicines,

Eclectic Dispensatory of Botanical Therapeuticsv. 1 & 2

Formulas for Healthful Living,

Herb Contraindications and Drug Interactions

Complex Herbs – Complete Medicines.

He will speak on the complexity of herbs and the implications of this complexity

for research being undertaken in the area of botanicals.

Ms O’Shea will speak on her current research into the use of herbs for combating

MRSA.

Ms Sheridan will be speaking on the HETAC draft document on educational

standards for Complimentary Therapies.

2.00 pm to 2.30 pm Dr. Aoibheann Nic Donnnchadha,

Asst. ProfessorSchool of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

Medical writing in Irish, c. 1400 to c.1650'

This lecture will discuss the manuscripts, their provenance, scribes and texts,

and evaluate their impor-

3.00 pm – 3.30 pm Ms. Tassell, MSc (Herbal Medicine)

Ms Tassell’s background is in Biomedical Science and she is currently

researching the therapeutic use of Crataegus sp.(Hawthorn) at Cork Institute of

Technology. MsTassell will speak about her research to date.

4.00 pm – 4.30 pm Dr. Molloy, PhD

Lecturer in Art History and Critical Theory at Galway Mayo Institute of

Technology

Vital Questions: Philosophical Obstacles to a Science of Medical Herbalism.

Dr. Molloy will seek to clarify the philosophical underpinnings of many of the

contemporary herbal texts, in an effort to undercover the theory behind the

practice and to provide an opportunity for Western herbal medicine to coherently

redefine

itself in the 21st century

4.30 pm – 5.00 pm Ms. Beatriz Linhares, BSc, Medical Herbalist

Ms Linhares combines traditional Chinese and Western herbal medicine. She runs a

dermatology clinic at Whipps Cross Hospital, London. Her areas of expertise and

interest are skin, fertility and hormonal conditions

2.30 pm – 3.00 pm Mr. Lugli, BSc - Aboca Group, Italy.

Mr. Lugli is an industrial chemist and medical herbalist.

He is currently Scientific Director of Planta Medica, Aboca group, Italy. He has

been co-author of several books and publications about medicinal herbs and

recently (2006) has been coordinator of the first edition of the Italian

translation of the ESCOP Monographs (2007).

He will speak on the quality control measures necessary in the harvesting and

manufacturing of herbal products
