Guest guest
Oh my, i'm happy to report that we're done with the freezing weather for the most part here. We have a lovely holiday weekend in the works. With sun and just a few sprinkles here and there. I hope your storm is uneventful and passes quickly. Guest guest
totally true! We had some guest from up in the mountains yesterday and they said they had to turn the air conditioner on yesterday morning...it got up to 5 degrees! lolol Jane With respect to climate temperatures, I tell people its all relative. It depends on what you are used to. An Alaskan in New York City in the dead of winter would consider that being in a heat wave. A Hawaiian in New York City in the dead of summer would consider that being in a cold snap. I am used to the New Orleans humidity its influences on the heat index and the wind chill factor. Guest guest
I hope you have melted out well there. it's sunny and almost warm here but we have steady high winds. it's not so windy downtown and if it weren't little guys birthday, i'd be finding somewhere less windy to go enjoy the sun, as it is, we are going to grab the cousins and a couple of his friends and go visit the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, which has lots of cool things for kids to check out. it's very nice to have a day off of work. I started packing up some of our excess stuff in prep for getting the work done on our house. It's only taken me 4 weeks to get started! I hope everyone is seeing better weather today! laurie > > Hi All: Well we are recovering from a severe ice storm here. We were > without power from Monday to Thursday. Guest guest
Have we forgoten? What I like about winter? For me maybe its not enough winter. We seem to be getting more ice than snow. As the wInter passes I am beginning to wish for a good snow storm. The later in the season the better.. Late season snows require less clean uo, They come, we have some time to play in the snow, Then simply melt away,, It is also the season of lent. Lent seeems so much SO weather appropiate. IT begins in the cold, cold winter and ends with the arrivalk of spring, Its blooming beautiful. Bobjjsmth@... wrote: totally true! Guest guest
this site has some good stuff: http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/m_mile.html This is for paid stuff but has a lot of variety: http://www.activetrainer.com/Endurance/Running.htm?CMP=KNC-Google_AT_Run & HBX_OU=50 & gclid=CMeM7-DUz5ECFRI0awodPSRe1A Hey Everybody, I'm new. Looking to do the TNT Walk in Disney next January and lose about 80 pounds in the process. I've lost 30 in the past and really want to get back to feeling that good. I got up this morning to 2 inches of snow on the ground. I'm next door (literally) to Ellsworth AFB by Rapid City, SD, so let's just say I was a little ticked as I really wanted to go out for a walk, but not with our winds. Heck, if I decided to take the broom to the store, I'd be in Sioux Falls before I could figure out how to turn around (yes, I'm nuts, and it helps greatly). Luckily, I work out of my home and do not have to get out in it this week. Of course, it's going to be like 51 on Thursday (bout as bad as Fla...heat in the am and ac in the afternoon LOL). Hope you all stay warm. BTW, does anyone know anything on making a training schedule to go from 0 - marathon in 10 months? I really need to start walking, and I'm looking to get a treadmill in my office, but I need a plan to start with. I don't want to spend 5 months working to 6 miles and then try to cram the other 20 miles in in the last 20 weeks. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Hey Everybody, I'm new. Guest guest
I had never thought of this, Bob. You have hit on something as to the seasonality of lent, and, indeed, Easter. We drove to a horse show in south Louisiana this past weekend, and saw redbuds blooming and maple trees just starting to leaf out. Not quite there, here in south Mississippi, but a hint of things to come. It is in the high 30's tonight, but is supposed to get to the mid 60's tomorrow. Alas, no snow so far this year and with March around the corner, possibilities are dwindling. When we get any, and if it sticks, it is almost always gone by noon. I can recall only once (l963) when a snow lasted a couple of days. W Re: Re: here we go again Have we forgoten? What I like about winter? For me maybe its not enough winter. We seem to be getting more ice than snow. As the wInter passes I am beginning to wish for a good snow storm. The later in the season the better.. Late season snows require less clean uo, They come, we have some time to play in the snow, Then simply melt away,, It is also the season of lent. Lent seeems so much SO weather appropiate. IT begins in the cold, cold winter and ends with the arrivalk of spring, Its blooming beautiful. Bobjjsmth@... wrote: totally true! Guest guest
Good luck with your plan. One of these really dedicated walkers will probably be able to give you advice on getting started with your plan. I am only about 8 hours from Disney, and go frequently. Keep us posted, and I will come cheer you on when you go for the TNT walk. I used to hope to do the half marathon there, sometime, but knees are past that now. Welcome to the group, Tegan. Guest guest
Jane, I knew you would have some good help for Tegan. All I can do is encourage a person, and Tegan needed some "been there, done it" which you can provide. Thanks. has been there as well, and if she is following the group just now could probably also provide useful info. You may want to book mark / check out the About.com's walking website at http://walking.about.com/ There is a section on marathons and other long distance walking at http://walking.about.com/od/marathon/Marathons_HalfMarathons_Ultramarathons_Long_Distance_Walking.htm Hope you do get to successfully do the "TNT Walk in Disney next January " Gerard --------- Re: here we go again I hope you have melted out well there. it's sunny and almost warmhere but we have steady high winds. it's not so windy downtown and ifit weren't little guys birthday, i'd be finding somewhere less windyto go enjoy the sun, as it is, we are going to grab the cousins and acouple of his friends and go visit the Oregon Museum of Science andIndustry, which has lots of cool things for kids to check out. it's very nice to have a day off of work. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. I've heard of Team in Training but haven't ever been part of it. What I've heard though is that they provide the training. The people I know (I've been around people who've talked about doing it but I don't know them personally) joined specifically for the training they would receive as opposed to the walk/bike ride/run they expected to do in the end. They joined other people who trained together with a trainer, several times a week. Is that not the same where you live? Elaine Hey Laurie, welcome Tegan, what is the TNT walk? Did you find a good website? Thank you, and thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to like it here. TNT is Team in Training. A branch through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They sponcer walks all over, and the nice part is, is that they cover the travel expences and hotel. The only thing you have to do is train, raise the needed amount, and have money for your own food (and any souviners and stuff like that. They do cover 2 of the meals, but the rest is up to you. Oh, and after the initial registation fee of like $50.00, any other walks you do after that, the only thing you need (other than your food money), is the required amount raised. And it's set up so that 75% of the money you raise goes to the foundation. Only 25% goes towards your transportation and lodging. I was thinking of doing the Breast Cancer 3-Day, but not only do you have to provide your own transportation, but you have to walk 20 miles a day for 3 days plus sleep in tents for the two nights. I think I'll start off with a nice soft bed in a hotel. I don't think I could get up and down on the ground and still function after walking that far each day. I may do it the folling year once I get a marathon or two under my belt, but for just starting off... As far as the websites, I'm looking as we speak er write, read...? Guest guest
Hey Elaine, I"m not sure exactly how things will be going as I am going to have to be a part of the virtual Team in Training. I'm still working on getting a treadmill here in my office so that I can train at the same time I am working. Hey, I see no reason to waste time sitting on my butt when I can be walking it off.
