Hi Eileen,

I need to go back to some earlier research I did, but I think it is an aminoglycocide, along w other meds ending with –icide or -ycide./ -icin, -ycin. In this group vertigo and hearing loss are the most serious and ?permanent s-effects. I’ve been told by a doc that o/dose s-e hearing loss was irreversible but several wks ago met a lady who’d had 7 wks deafness after gentamycin (I’ve had 3 lots IV this year), but her hearing returned...???!!!

I have troubles with tinnitus, and dermatitis among other probs.......mostly down to loooonnnggg-term use of abx, like most of 56 yrs...

I was trialled on 6% saline nebs in October & I’m beginning to feel like I have another swipe at life again......and a stay-out-of-hospital pass. It’s the best thing, no s-e. - needs ~ 20-25mins/day x2 daily, and in Aus needs a prescriptn. Much better than inhaling what is basically toxic substance. The saline feels like a lung wash 2 x daily, prevents build-up of sputum therefore material for infx to breed in. I sleep better, I wake not feeling like I haven’t slept, for the first time in decades....

Tobi isn’t available in Aus so we don’t get to try it, so can’t help you there, but I’d really be wanting to talk about alternatives w/ specialist/doctor, s-e to that extent aren’t really acceptable..

All the best,

joy
