I do not celebrate Christmas as most of you know..but I had a really fun week. I got in a baking frenzy which I sometimes do because of the cold. I ended up baking 5 pumpkin pies (starting with the last of my pumpkins), 2 apple pies, a blueberry cobbler, 5 loaves of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, brownies, and 5 of my grand kids came over and we made a bunch of gingerbread. Then my daughter and son-in-law both worked Christmas day and worked late so I had two of the grand kids overnight and we stuffed ourselves with all the goodies! lol

So at 6 am this morning my 9 yr old granddaughter woke me up and said grandma we need to go to Curves...we ate too much yesterday! lol. So we did!

That was my week!

Ok i know it's not over yet, but now that everyone knows what I didfor Christmas, what did you do?How was the weather?Any time or place for exercise?Learn any fabulous new healthy recipe items that we can put to use?Did you take some time to put yourself first in the right kind of waysduring the weekend? I know most of us are the types who put ourselveslast as we care for everyone else.Anyway I'm excited to have some time to better keep up with the groupand find out what's going on with everyone.Laurie One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. On Christmas eve I found a pigeon standing by my apt building, obviously couldn't fly and was ungroomed-looking. He could have died of cold or more likely be attacked by a cat during the night. I put him in a cage where he had a good appetite (for birdseed) and appeared strong. Brought him back out Christmas day hoping he was feeling better and could fly but didn't.

I took him to the wildlife hospital where I used to volunteer but they wouldn't treat him because he's a pigeon. Seems so wrong. But now they refer people to a place that turns no animal away, but is at least 40 miles from my home. I took him there where they said he is okay but has lots of oil dispersed throughout his body and it will take several washings to get it out. Then they'll put him in an aviary to ensure he can fly. Once he is ready for the world again, I'll pick him up. The law here says that wild animals must be released in the same location as they have been rescued. This is a long way for a volunteer to go, esp through lots of traffic and a toll bridge, so I'll do it. I'm so glad it turned out okay for him (so far).

We had a beautiful, cloudless, sunny, somewhat cold day today without too much traffic on that long drive today.

What a friend the animals have in you!!!!! I do hope he remembers you after his release.\\

I had a great Christmas day, My Daughter and her family are visiting us from Virginia. so Santa came here, making for a fullhouse, A week or so we had some snow and ice, the drive way still is icy, But the weather has been good for several days. Today it will be aost 50 and tomorrow above 60, That will clear the drive-way. I think my favorite thing so far was +The Lights in the Parkway". A local Ghristmas light show. My Grandsons really liked the lights, Doing the drive through both the one year old and the three year old wrre on my lap. I hope we find something fun to do today, Life is good, I hope to here what more of you are doing,

After the new year we will be going to my daughter house in Virginai for two months. A liffle less snow to deal with. They recently bought a new house, with an in law apartment. so we will lots of room.. I am hopimg to begin a wrriting careerr while there.

We always go over to the inlaws on Christmas eve, and exchange gifts, and have sandwhiches and such. It's always fun, and then on Christmas, we open gifts in our own home. Congrats Laurie on your new little blessing.....To: thefatmanwalking_group Sent: Friday, December 26, 2008

That pigeon will be a Christmas memory for you forever, Elaine (and, to a lesser extent, for us with whom you shared the story). Let us know when you release him. Thanks for a great Christmas story.

W

PS I worked at the hospice on Christmas Day. We had our family Christmas on Christmas Eve. Almost all of us were working on Christmas Day... two nurses, a firefighter, two casino employees, and the husband/wife owners of a physician's answering service.

Yum, Jane!! My daughter and I did the baking we usually do for Christmas gifting yesterday and today...sour cream fudge, cheese straws, and Snowbird Lodge cookies. The people who expect them would not let us off the hook just because we were too involved before Christmas, so, tonight we distribute the goodies.

Glad you had a good Christmas, Bob, and that the snow has melted. Everyone was sitting around at work talking about how they would love to go someplace where there was snow... a mixed blessing, I know. Good luck with the writing.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I love spending time with the family during the holidays :) My son is back from the Middle East and is now stationed about 5 hours from us so he was able to drive home to spend a few days. Had a wonderful time and I got a new flannel gown & a little cash on Christmas:) I probably ate a wee bit too much also... so I am staying off my scales till the new year :)

Hugs,

lol, Bob. I bet that pigeon won't remember being saved from the cats or the heating pad or the birdseed I found for him on Christmas morning. He'll remember being put in a cage that he sometimes struggled to get out of, of being transported in a bag for several hours, then the indignity of multiple baths and being handled. When he's released, he'll probably poop on my head the first chance he gets. Just like people I know.

, I will let you know when I release him. When I was working at a wildlife hospital last year, I released three jays and that was a neat experience. On TV, I see birds released by throwing them into the air. That doesn't seem kind to me. I opened the bag, put it on its side and the birds walked out on their own and flew off when they were ready.

I didn't drive this pigeon around on Christmas day as the wildlife hospital was closed. Since he wasn't in any trauma, but instead was sitting on a heating pad, eating, drinking and pooping, that was good because I had other things to do that day. I went to midnight mass. In the morning I took care of a cat for her vacationing owner then went for lunch at a friend's home. In the evening I went to another friend's home. One is from India so all the food served was Indian this year. Some of the guests brought Indian appetizers. It was impressive. Delicious and most of it wasn't too spicy. Christmas was a cold, overcast, damp, grey day. The next day, when I spent so much time on the highways, it was so beautiful; bright and sunny.

What a friend the animals have in you!!!!! I do hope he remembers you after his release.\\

You're a good soul Elaine, the bird is lucky you were on his side. I

don't think many places here take pigeons either.
