Guest guest
My Patient CJ is a 4y/o 86 lb (tall and thin) neutered Goldendoodle who’s hx includes bilateral lateral patella luxation, surgical repaired, and bilateral HD followed by THR. His surgical progression as follows9-8-10 Right patella1-26-11 Left THR and Left Patella Both went well and dog recovered without difficulty 6-15-11 Right THR. His right patella subluxed at 2 weeks and his hip dislocated at 5 weeks out. (rehab ex had not begun yet) Dog would not weight bear from time of surgery.7-27-11 Redo Right THR and right patella. 13 days latter (no PT) he was x-rayed and was dislocated at his hip.8-10-11 Right FHO, stem from THR kept in and “Ground down” titanium head Since then he was doing well in rehab almost ready for DC end of December. Awoke in am 3 legged. Surgeon felt FHO was fine and used pain meds to help us return to rehab. Rehab included mobility, pelvic PNF, SI monitoring, graduated ex program for both proximal stabilization, limb strength, lateral hip stabilization balance/timing etc.CJ ambulates with lameness that ranges from subtle dysfunction to occasional toe touch at times. We go up and down like a yoyo in regards to his progress. A orthopedic second opinion yesterday confirmed his FHO as amble clearance, mild OA to patella/femoral and a stable stifle. This surgeon felt that he may have too much hip laxity due to his THR as she explained you have to open the joint for more access for a THR than a FHO . My Question (you all know I was going to get there eventually ) Would bracing help stabilize so I can make steady progress? Any suggestions?
