Guest guest
Everybody is totally different. Lungs and bronchiectasis can be very unpredictable. I feel fine at the moment, that can change within minutes, hours. The outcome of lungdisease depends on the person's habits, lifestyle, general health. Did they smoke? If they didn't, were they exposed to smoke, or pollution. Was the person active beforehand, did they participate in sports. Nutrition, what about the other organs? If you're that worried about your mom - why not ask the hospital staff to set up a family meeting. This would involve the medical staff, doctors, family members who are involved in your mom's care. This way you get some concrete answers. Also try to only have one family member to be the spokesperson. Doctors don't have the time ro repeat answering questions to every family member. Bronchoscopys/lavage are important to determine what bacterium is in the lungs, so it can be treated with the right type of antibiotic. I wish you all the best for your mom, Karin > > > I have been reading the posts about a lung transplant. Guest guest
Dear CaSak in NY--I am so sorry about all of this with your Mom especially as you have young children to take care of right now as well. I'm not sure any of us here on email can answer your question w/ certainty about your Mom's prognosis going forward. I think you and your sister need to press the Dr that is treating her for more feedback. Is your Dad still alive and with your Mom?? Right now I'd say you should concentrate on getting her treated for the infection(s) she has right now that typically cause this type of bleeding--I think you said she bleeds from the lungs? While it's a frightening sympton it isn't necessarily the worst part of the disease. You might be surprised how much better she will feel once the anitbiotics kick in and then You should try to get her CAT scans to another pulmonary Dr. in the area for a second opinion if you can. I have no idea how they determine who is eligible for a lung transplant but 62 or 63 doesn't sound that old to me!! Does she have any other health conditions that may be weakening her?? Sorry lots of questions/advice but no real answers. XX
Guest guest
Hi I don't know much about about the lung transplant program in reference to if there are different guidelings in each state or not. The dr told us (in the state of kansas) that the cut off is around 55 yrs old. My mom also has an irregalur heart beat and is on blood thinners which doesn t help the blooding. She also has low blood sugar and other misc health concerns. I welcome the advice I'm getting since I'm trying to figure this all out, so thank you. <html><DIV> & nbsp;</DIV></html> > >Reply-To: bronchiectasis >To: bronchiectasis >Subject: Re: lung transplant >Date: Mon, 09 Apr 2007 21:08:02 -0000 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >X-Originating-IP: 66.94.237.10 >X-Sender: julieryanparker@... >Received: from n21a.bullet.scd.yahoo.com ([66.94.237.50]) by >bay0-mc10-f17.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Mon, >9 Apr 2007 14:10:51 -0700 >Received: from [66.218.69.5] by n21.bullet.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 09 Apr >2007 21:10:50 -0000 >Received: from [66.218.67.115] by t5.bullet.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 09 >Apr 2007 21:10:50 -0000 >Received: (qmail 24857 invoked from network); 9 Apr 2007 21:09:22 -0000 >Received: from unknown (66.218.66.72) by m47.grp.scd.yahoo.com with QMQP; >9 Apr 2007 21:09:22 -0000 >Received: from unknown (HELO n32c.bullet.scd.yahoo.com) (66.94.237.10) by >mta14.grp.scd.yahoo.com with SMTP; 9 Apr 2007 21:09:19 -0000 >Received: from [66.218.69.4] by n32.bullet.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 09 Apr >2007 21:08:02 -0000 >Received: from [66.218.66.82] by t4.bullet.scd.yahoo.com with NNFMP; 09 Apr >2007 21:08:02 -0000 >X-Message-Info: >LsUYwwHHNt3660MmjhEvYg2f34OAemlK+ZzoV09lDsZmbz8QigGIQtU5Yvr3lK0P >Comment: DomainKeys? Guest guest
I just have to share my experience re organ donations. When my husband died 25 yrs ago I donated his eyes. They gave two different people his eyes. They wouldn't divulge who the recipients were, but they said there were two very grateful people out there because of this. There's always something that can be used. .. I just want to give you a big ole bear hug ..thank you for sharing your story with us about your husband and the donation of his eyes..a gift of sight for others.
