Guest guest
FYI -- I wanted to let you know about an instructional video we have made. One of the things that doesn't get much attention in veterinary and vet tech programs is using proper body mechanics when lifting. I've heard a lot of vet students complain about low back pain after a couple days in clinics working with paralyzed dogs, for example. So Cara , who is a PT, and I put together a video which includes basic body mechanics, lifting dogs onto and off of tables, in and out of vehicles, use of towels, harness and gait belt, and considerations in clothing and shoes. It would be appropriate for showing new employees in a clinic, as part of their orientation, also. The video has 2 segments -- a short version of 4 minutes summarizes the main points (and would be appropriate for showing owners who have to handle handicapped dogs) and a longer 18 min version goes into more detail. I put a few clips from the video on YouTube at: The video costs $30 plus shipping ($5 will be donated to a local animal shelter) if you email me. JanJanet Steiss, DVM, PhD, PT, Dipl.
