A Horribly Frightening Thing Happened To Me Today on The Treadmill...

I went to the gym today and got on the treadmill as usual to do my HIIT. I

felt FINE when I got to the gym. I started the treadmill and did my warm up

for 5 minutes and then kicked the incline up to 10. I made it another 4

minutes or so and then went temporarily BLIND. Seriously my vision LEFT me.

This happened right after I got a shooting pain in the right side of my head

above my ear, which made me really dizzy and super nauseated. I kind of

freaked out and hit the stop button but I still stumbled and went down on my

knees, THEN I was STUCK on the treadmill for another 4 minutes until my

vision returned. (of course during this time everyone else went on around me

like nothing was wrong.)I was standing there completely unable to form a

complete thought as to what was happening and clutching to the sides of the

treadmill for dear life, BLIND as a bat. I was very " clumsy " getting off

the treadmill and couldn't get my legs and arms to work quite right I

flagged down a trainer who sat me down in a chair and I told him what

happened. He got me a bottle of water and a protein bar and asked me if I

wanted him to call an ambulance. I mumbled " no " because I really didn't want

to go to the hospital. I was however SCARED to death. I carry a Glucometer

in my purse due to Diabetes running in my family and SOMETIMES I get low

blood sugar but my sugar was normal. I have no idea what could have caused

this but eventually it did pass. However, I am now left with a slightly

" dingy " and disconnected feeling in my brain, and my vision and coordination

aren't what they were before the incident...

I do not have insurance so a trip to the doctor is out of the question right

now.

Do you think this could have been because I hadn't eaten? Does it sound

familiar to anyone??

My mom said it sounded like a stroke but obviously it wasn't because I am

functioning rather normally afterwards. Just a little slow and clumsy..

Any advice would be appreciated..

Thanks..

You really need to get this checked out. Go to the hospital now. I am

really suprised they did not load you up on the bus at the health club.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? Okay, you need to get serious here. This

is something not to fool around with. I suggest, highly suggest,

that you get into the emergency room right away. I can't tell you

how many times people " self diagnose " themselves saying... " it

obviously wasn't a stroke " . And when did YOU graduate from medical

school, I might add. There could be a number of things going on here

and none of them should be treated lightly. Don't use the reason of

no insurance to delay getting treatment. Emergency rooms need to see

and treat you. I turst you will follow our advice and go NOW!

Hello I'm Danny from the uk and new to the group. Without wanting to

worry you , you can have mini strokes and still go about fine as if

nothing happened. I do feel you really do need to get this checked

out. You do not lose your sight with overtraining. I thought that

there were hospitals that you could go to without insurance.

Anyway best of look .Your health is the most important thing.

How is your blood pressure under the stressful conditions? There are many tiny

blood vessels in our brain that can burst as we drive up the blood pressure.

This condition is often called a mini stroke or a lacunar infarct (?sp?). I

guess I should remember the name, but it happened to me more than 20 years ago,

before I was treated for my VERY high blood pressure.

This is also why my docs of way back get nervous about me and HIIT cardio.

Until I started dropping some large quantities of fat, my docs suggested a

moderate, not high, intensity. I obeyed and simply extended the time. As I

dropped the pounds, I gradually increased the intensity.

Anyhow, what you described can be very dangerous if left untreated. I considered

mine a warning shot and did focus on better health and fitness until my blood

pressure was controlled by meds. And then I gained it all back, plus a lot more

for good measure. :(

I had a sensory loss that mostly returned, but still gives me reminders of its

happening with occasional pain or tingles in the deadened area. If this is, in

fact, what occurred, be thankful any losses are not permanent and get to the

docs for a checkup.

It is good to be alive and poor from medical bills rather than well to do, but

living in the afterlife. :)

I can only echo what 100% of the responses have said.... GET MEDICAL

ATTENTION.

If funds are tight, cancel your gym membership. Whatever it takes.. see a

doc ASAP.

The symptoms you have described are not in any way descriptive of low blood

sugar (where one can black out if the blood sugar goes low enough but that

leads to unconsciousness not blindness).

Sometimes an emergency room can cost lots more than simply getting in to see

a doctor for an emergency appointment. Try that option first. Call your

doctor, or if you don't have one, call a neurologist and explain your

symptoms and watch how fast they jump to get you in. However, if they

schedule you for a month from now, do not except that...push for

immediately.

Do not exercise any more until you get this checked.

I have had a neurological reaction on occasion since about age 14-15 where

the left side of my face, tongue, and left arm become numb and I lose

partial vision (like black spots block places in my range of vision making

reading almost impossible). My worst spell happened in 1985 at which point

I was unable to articulate effectively...I couldn't find words that matched

thoughts I wanted to speak. I saw a neurologist and much later had an MRI

which thankfully ruled out stroke. I currently get that sensation maybe

once a year and it lasts for 20 minutes and passes. It may have been a case

of Bell's Palsy, except my arm should not have been numb. I may never know

what is happening.

Keep us posted. We are taking this seriously and so should you. Let us

know what you choose to do.

It still could have been a small stroke even if you feel better now.

I hope that somehow you can get insurance and see a doctor soon just

to put your mind at ease.
