Guest guest
Look into OrthoPets in Denver, CO. They make custom braces and they are relatively inexpensive.Hope his helps, Paws n' Claws Company www.pawsnclawsco.com To: VetRehab Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 9:27 AM Subject: carpal valgus I have two cases with valgus issues at the carpus and I would like to splint them. I have not been happy in the past with the carpal splints I have tried (not enough support) so I thought I would check in here on opinions: Case 1-- geriatric Great Dane (110 lbs), that needs bilat cruciates, and has a valgus deformity with little ROM in the wrist. The deviation is enough that I think the carpal brace will need to be custom with a deviation build into it. I do not see any firm straight splint working for this dog. Case 2-- tiny morkie (4 lbs) with complete break down of all medial ligament attachments, and even resorbtion of the medial carpal bones (fun xrays). I am sending it for surgery and arthrodesis but would like to do something to support the wrists and get them in a more normal anatomical position when she walks until then. Her carpi are nearly normal when nonweight bearing, but I can get a full 90 degree (and more) deviation laterally. Thanks for the thoughts. Guest guest
I've also used Therapaw. Ilaria is amazing and does a great job with customizing their carpal wraps. carpal valgus I have two cases with valgus issues at the carpus and I would like to splint them. Guest guest
-- I have used therapaw before but did not think it was supportive enough given they are neoprene with added support, but an open to trying them again if you have used them for something similar? Guest guest
Jo, I had an older patient with a bilateral carpal varus that had recently become more unstable due to a ccl tear and surgery. She was overweight and had shifted a larger percentage of her weight forward after the ccl injury so both carpus were breaking down. She rehabed well from her surgery, but I felt her front legs needed some additional support. I emailed pictures, sent measurements and spoke to Ilaria on the phone. She was great and custom fit the carpal braces with additional support built in. These seem to work well for giving support during walks and outside activity. I would suggest giving her a call and asking her specifically about the cases you are working on. She's really very helpful. Hope this helps, carpal valgus > > > > > I have two cases with valgus issues at the carpus and I would like to splint them.
