Yikes! I don't advocate mammograms. I honestly don't know anything about her =- just saw the name mentioned here.

Re: Dr. Vliet on Blogtalkradio.com

I don't entirely trust Dr. Vliet's opinions. She uses a lot ofemotional arguments and fear tactics that imply way more than theopinion pieces of the international menopause society that sherecommends. For technical details on hormone usage, she is probably agood source of information. However, she also recommends yearlymammograms. Mammograms are implicated as a cause (perhaps leading) of breastcancer. http://www.ratical.org/radiation/CNR/PBC/ Dr. Gofman was amainstream radiation scientist through most of his career.Karima>> Did you guys know that she has a podcast? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/drvliet/2007/12/18/Dr-Vliets-Savvy-Womans-Health-Guide> > > B.> www.naturalthyroidchoices.com>

Hi, Karima, I don't necessarily agree with whatever Dr. Vliet says, but I must say that she has help shed light on a number of hormonal issues that no one else has touched on. I agree with you, though, that it is foolhardy to put 100% trust in any one source. ColleenKarima wrote: She makes some very powerful points, and then I go to the sources suchas the international menopause society that she recommends. Althoughthe

IMS is not exactly unbiased themselves, as their awardsare sponsored by various pharmaceutical companies such Bayer. They arestill very careful about how they describe both the benefits and risksof hormone use. There is so much to read and study on the subject of hormones. I havebeen putting in hours and hours of reading the various arguments putforward by the cheerleaders and naysayers for hormone supplementation. There is so much to read and I change my mind every day on some aspectof the subject. I am fast becoming very skeptical of anything saidabout hormones. It is such a loaded topic. And I now trace back andread the references that are used. Try to understand the studies thatare used to support arguments.Very often the same studies are used for both sides of an argument.Brings to mind the public affairs saying, "figures lie and lier's figure."I do think that Vliet makes some good points, but that

doesn't mean Iaccept her opinions on women's health. But when commenting ontechnical details of hormone usage, she probably has the clinicalexperience to offer very good advice. The National Women's Health Network offers some great analysis ofwomen's health issues from a feminist, evidence based perspective, butI don't accept a lot of their stances on health matters either. Andthey are non profit unlike Dr. Vliet. And of course, everyone nowadays claims to be evidence based, andpractically saint-like in their efforts to assist women, particularlymenopausal ones with annoying hot flashes!Karima> >> > Did you guys know that she has a podcast? > http://www.blogtalkradio.com/drvliet/2007/12/18/Dr-Vliets-Savvy-Womans-Health-Guide> > > > > > B.> > www.naturalthyroidchoices.com> >>

You do know Vliet uses synthroid instead of disiccated thyroid, right?

One of the gals in my thyroidless group was quite adamant about not

continuing to be her patient for that very reason.

Bioidentical sex hormones but not bioidentical thyroid hormones. That

bothers me.
