Guest guest
Female, four year old Suri alpaca - two weeks ago found with body score one and anaemic. NBW 50kg, suspect now only 40kg. Suspect parasite issue which has been treated including a blood transfusion Monday. Has been unable to stand. Owner has been doing ROM exercises with all four legs. Managed to get her on her feet today astride a hay bale but with barely any weight put on back legs and she would not put her front legs down. With some coaxing using a towel as a sling she managed three short stands. I'm going to see the alpaca tomorrow - any and all suggestions on rehab treatments to try will be very welcome. Guest guest
I have tx a few cases of suspected Meningeal worms that have responded great to simple standing and NMES. We usually utilize a hoyer lift with Walkabout slings in addition to a hay bale or physioroll for chest support. We just get creative! Eventually they can start walking in the Hoyer lift too. On occasion, if they are small enough we will put them in the UWTM.
