Guest guest
I have two cases with valgus issues at the carpus and I would like to splint them. I have not been happy in the past with the carpal splints I have tried (not enough support) so I thought I would check in here on opinions: Case 1-- geriatric Great Dane (110 lbs), that needs bilat cruciates, and has a valgus deformity with little ROM in the wrist. The deviation is enough that I think the carpal brace will need to be custom with a deviation build into it. I do not see any firm straight splint working for this dog. Case 2-- tiny morkie (4 lbs) with complete break down of all medial ligament attachments, and even resorbtion of the medial carpal bones (fun xrays). I am sending it for surgery and arthrodesis but would like to do something to support the wrists and get them in a more normal anatomical position when she walks until then. Her carpi are nearly normal when nonweight bearing, but I can get a full 90 degree (and more) deviation laterally. Thanks for the thoughts.
