CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - Research

in Veterinary Rehabilitation

 

Award  and Presentation

The chosen abstract will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Association

of Rehabilitation Veterinarians hosted at the North American Veterinary

Conference in January 2013. Presentation time is 15 minutes. The presenting veterinarian will be awarded $2500.  The money will be spent on registration,

travel and lodging for the entire conference.  Any remaining funds will be

given to the presenter to be used to further his/her research in the area of

veterinary rehabilitation.

ABSTRACT

SUBMISSION:

Abstracts must be submitted no later than 11:59pm (ET), September

1st 2012.

submit your abstract, email the abstract in the format outlined below to Dr.

Orenbuch:  evelynvet@... 

PRESENTER

NOTIFICATION:

The presenting veterinarian MUST submit his or her own abstract(s) and each

submitting author will be notified whether

their abstract has been chosen for presentation  no later than October 1st, 2012. 

SCORING AND

EVALUATION PROCESS:

The abstracts (blinded) are scored on a 100-point system: Title (5

points), Introduction (5 points), Hypothesis (10 points), Methods (20 points),

Results (20 points), Discussion (20 points), Scientific value or Clinical

relevance (20 points).  The abstracts are reviewed by each of the

board members and scored. The cumulative scores will be calculated and the

abstract with the highest score will be chosen for presentation

All abstracts are reviewed and ranked by the Scientific Program

Committee formed by the AARV Board of Directors 

 

GENERAL

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT PREPARATION:

·     

Abstract Deadline:

Submitted by 11:59pm (ET) September

1st, 2012. 

·     

All abstracts should be described in terms of

the research protocol for example as prospective, retrospective, clinical

trial, blinded etc.

·     

Abstract format

·     

Title: The title should be

brief and accurately reflect the content of the abstract.  Do not use

abbreviations in the title.

·     

Abstract Authors: 

The submitting author MUST also be the presenting author.  You may add as

many additional authors as necessary.  Be certain to provide complete

information for each.

·     

Abstract: Abstract is divided

into 5 sections and should be approximately 800 words in total.  Each

section needs to be entered separately as follows:

·     

Introduction and hypothesis/objectives: Background

on general topic or previous work; include statement of purpose of the study.

Should convey the need, significance/impact of the work.

·     

Materials and methods: Briefly

describe the methodology of research or technique used in this study. 

Methods should be appropriate to answer the hypothesis or problem that generated

the work.

·     

Results: Briefly describe the

methodology of research or technique used in this study.  Methods should

be appropriate to answer the hypothesis or problem that generated the work.

·     

Discussion/conclusions: Include

an interpretation of the results.  How can the information derived from

this study, or technique, best be applied to further research or clinical

situation?  Provide relevance and/or innovation to the current body of

knowledge.

·     

Graphics: Figures, photos and

graphs cannot be embedded in the text but should be referenced within the text

and uploaded as a separate file. These images will appear at the end of your

abstract.

·     

The Association will only accept abstracts that

comply with guidelines set forth by the eighth edition of the " Guide for

Techniques for euthanasia should follow

guidelines established by the American Veterinary Medical Association Panel on
