Guest guest
I am not trying to start a great debate on surgery vs conservative vs bracing, just a question. From a longterm mechanical standpoint, has anyone assessed whether there are differences post TPLO/TTA vs bracing? By that, I am wondering if years down the road, whether strength, compensatory issues, pain have been followed or assessed? Watching both of these groups walk1-2 years post brace or surgery, I seem to see more compensation in a dog still wearing a brace though both have noticeable gait variances. I am assuming it is from having the brace as any device would make the dog alter how he ambulates. Does that in anyway, longterm, affect ROM in the hip or tarsal area or cause compensation issues. And has anyone compared the likelihood of the opposite side needing surgery/ bracing assuming a rehabilitation regimen has been pursued?(knowing it is a common occurrence, would like comparison likelihood) I am commonly asked the question, " longterm, which would be better for my dog? " so taking the cost comparison out of the equation, I would like your thoughts.
