Guest guest
I got off of aspertame and went into remission. I has one more flare up after that and have been in remission since. I only use sugar and stevia now. I'm convinced that for me, aspertame was my trigger that gave me EN. Sent from my iPhone Wondering if anyone else with EN drinks diet pop or eats anything "sugar free", breath mints, etc. I thought I was finally getting better but I'm almost back to square one. The pain is crippling! I have a one year old that I need to take care of and one on the way, so I cant go on like this =(
Guest guest
after almost 12 yrs of trial and miss I am very careful to not add a new med or food to my diet at more than one at a time.... sometimes my flare ups take 2 months to show up so always beware.... my hell was mostly from PPI’s proton pump inhibitors... Prevacid, prilosec etc... and 10 yrs of arguing with drs I took myself off and SURPRISE it went away, but other things now trigger it.... cat scan contrast ALMOST KILLED ME. penicillin.... I don’t use artificial sweeteners they always scared me.... good luck and be careful what you take.... so glad you know one of your triggers From: MonikaFS Sent: Friday, June 08, 2012 2:36 PM To: erythema_nodosum_Group Subject: Re: Artificial sweeteners? Guest guest
I have noticed that when I drink a lot of diet soda I get lumps. I also stick with just stevia or Truvia. Does the darken area ever go away? my lumps have gone but the area looks bruised and has for months now. Guest guest
Hello all: I have suspected the diet soda thing. I have an egregious diet Dew habit, fully aware of what poison it is. One of the first thing I felt may be a trigger was the Dew. Being a bonafide habit, I did not adjust my intake after being diagnosed. I am declaring my first outbreak officially over now. It has been a couple weeks since the last nodules have faded into bruise patches. Most of the edema is gone, leaving just a few slightly sore joint points. I have nothing but the dark bruise patches on legs now. My legs are lumpier than before, way more vericose clusters after this episode;but, I feel the outbreak is over now. Im sort of paranoid about if and when it will come back. Im very happy to now know what it is. > > > Â > >Wondering if anyone else with EN drinks diet pop or eats anything " sugar free " , breath mints, etc. I thought I was finally getting better but I'm almost back to square one. Guest guest
yes they do but it can take awhile. I have had them last up to 2 yrs. depending on the outbreak. Usually they fade away after a year. I'm just learning about stevia is that the same as truvia????? I just bought stevia because I'm trying a new diet that helps reduce inflammation. are they they same product??? be patient with the spots. not anything you can do about them. my bout was for years and years and horrible break outs. its so nice to wear shorts again. I have a few spots from that contrast breakout but better than those horrid red lumps. now I just tell people I'm ungraceful and I have bruises. its so much easier to explain. people tend to look a you like you’re a leper and your contagious when you tell them your sick and no one has ever heard of EN so it freaks' em out. especially when your break out lasts 10 yrs... hahaha I have a sense of humor.... have too or I’d go crazy.. if I can help you or you need to vent I'm here..... remember pain can last for months after a breakout so if your having a pain day and cant figure out why...... probably the EN... legs knees ankles even my wrists will hurt.... reducing inflammation helps too. have a great day From: Barb Sent: Monday, June 11, 2012 8:27 AM To: erythema_nodosum_Group Subject: Re: Artificial sweeteners? Guest guest
My daughter is 15 years old...her symptoms include a fever and coughing. How do you figure out what your trigger is? She takes estrogen daily (she does not produce it naturally). Several doctors believe that's the trigger however after being off the estrogen for 3 weeks the cough and fever did not subside. The swelling in her legs did, though her ankles and feet would still swell throughout the day. She is seeing a dermatologist, rheumatologist, endocrinologist and her pediatrician. Is there another type of doctor you'd recommend that could help us get to the bottom of this? Also, chest CT scan is clear, SED rate very high, anemic. Thank you all for your help. Guest guest
The best doctors I have seen for my EN (35 years) have been more naturopath focused. Most endocrinologists I have gone to really are ignorant to autoimmune disorders and treat the symptom not the root cause.I had estrogen dominance, which aggravated my lumps. So estrogen could be a trigger. However there is hundreds of possible triggers so EN, unfortunately, is a self discovery process. You kind of have to be your own detective. Keeping a record of what works and what doesn't. There are also issues that mimic EN but can be a valley fever, funguses or something else. Also there are several issues that would produce a high SED: Lupus, thyroid disorders (which I have), viral infections, etc. So you might want to get her tested for these things just incase. We've had a few members that have had that and not true EN. Once they got diagnosed properly they were treated and done. EN seems to be a symptom of something attacking your immune system. The best doctor I have ever seen is in La Jolla, Calif. Dr. Bronner Handwerger. He told me to get off gluten completely. He also wanted me all organic, zero hormone inflated meats or foods. No Genetically modified foods. This can be difficult at first, but really after about 3 months you will be feeling so great it won't matter. There are a ton of resources. He also did a full nutrition panel and treated my iron deficiency, my thyroid issue (learned I had hashimotos, which no doctor ever diagnosed me as for 35 years), my estrogen dominance, my lack of progesterone, my b12 deficiency etc. naturopaths are more focused on getting to the root cause then just treating the symptoms. I have been lump free for almost one year with his help. I hope this helps. ML GemmillEN 1975 My daughter is 15 years old...her symptoms include a fever and coughing. Guest guest
My daughter had EN her senior yr in High School. She had just had a vaccine, was taking Bactrim, and Yaz. Triple whammy. She was VERY ill with EN for a good 2yrs on and off and also had a bout of Mono in that time frame. We saw an endo, rheumatologist, and infectious disease Dr and had chest X-rays and a CAT scan. Everything was negative. Her sed rate and CRP were elevated. She hasn't had another episode since. Now she is tired all the time and her hair is falling out. Wondering about her thyroid now :/. Sound familiar to anyone??RoxySent from my iPhone Thank you so much for your response. My daughter started on this path in March. It just feels like it will never end! Thank you again. Guest guest
Yes Truvia is taken from Stevia....I like the way it dissolves better. and the after taste is not as strong to me but I am ok with either. I love my ice sweet tea....so Truvia and Stevia are my best friends now. Whats the name of your diet you are trying..... I started working out at Curves and that has helped a lot for the lumps. I did many things at once so not really sure which helped maybe a combination of all. I do know that sugar is definately a trigger for me. I wear capri's to work and the guys downstairs confronted me thinking I was being abused....had to laugh over that one....so I explained to them what I have and they are ok now. Can you imgaine what they were thinking of my husband?? oh my poor guy!! Have a great day and keep smiling!! God is always smiling on us!!! Guest guest
Hey Guys! I just wanted to share with you guys.... I am NOT trying to sell anything to any of you, but if you are interested in trying what has worked I will be happy to help. My EN is triggered by estrogen and gluten. After really tracking my outbreaks I found that right around my monthly cycle I would get nodules in my legs. The more I ate gluten products the more I broke out. So I was researching how to lower my estrogen- and found that fat cells make estrogen. I also was starting to price our groceries to be gluten free... i found that to eat what I needed to get my estrogen lower without using gluten I was going to pay an arm and a leg. So I was really devastated, and I started to think that I was going to be on steroids and pain pills forever. I was stuck on the couch unable to be the mom I wanted to be, crying from the pain, and just really really depressed. I saw a post on my friends face book page, and she had a six pack of abs that I was really curious how she got! Anyhow, it turns out that she too has had to go gluten free for a brain disorder she has that causes siezures in her sleep, and it causes headaches, etc. So she started using this stuff called Vi-Shakes. It's gluten free, sugar free- uses splenda as a sweetener- and has estrogen free soy. I was pretty excited and started using it. Basicly its a meal replacement/protein shake. So I replace two meals a day with the shake (and it tastes amazing, my kids get mad when I don't share!). So anyhow, I have dropped 9% in body fat in 5 weeks, and my nodules and pain are gone. It is affordable for my family and costs about $1.75 per shake- I can't buy gluten free foods in the quanitity that I need to for the same cost. Since 2 meals a day are automaticly gluten and estrogen/hormone free I only have to budget for 2 snacks, and 1 meal gluten free... it actually saved us on our original grocery bill too! So for us it made sense. If your interested in getting any information about this product let me know. It has worked for me, and I swear by it. My husband has his energetic wife back, my children have their mommy back, and I have no pain and my depression as a result is also gone! This stuff has changed my life.... I'm sure all of you can understand how happy it has made me to be EN free! When you find that answer to your EN... it's like being reborn into this whole new life and you just want everyone to know about it. So I couldn't not share it with you guys. I hope all of you find your answer to this disease... if the Vi-shakes helped me, they may be worth trying for you... If they don't work, then keep trying other things! Here's to getting healthy and HAPPY! Love you guys, thanks for all the ideas, without them I would have been clueless as to what would be my 'answer'. Guest guest
My dermatologist said its a reaction to a chemical youre putting in your body. First thing he asked me was, if I drank diet pop. I had started drinking it 6 months earlier. I was taking prenatals n prozac also. I stopped the prenatals n diet pop n my symptoms seemed to improve. Pain n swelling are improving n its been 5 weeks. If it comes back, I will stop prozac also and be careful about any chemicals I put into my body
Guest guest
,There are two sides to all of the research on this product- just like most food products out there. Just like any other scientific research it is constantly changing.... like the whole debate about egg yolks being bad, then good, then bad, then good... on and on and on for years on end! LOL! Then cholesterol... it was bad, then okay, then they found out there are two kinds of Cholesterol... one is bad, and one is good!! It is practically comedic to me! I mean, both of the research teams turned out to be right! LOL! Like I said, I'm not trying to sell anything, I just know this has saved my life. It has worked for me, and if someone else wants to try it, and see if it can save them, then that's awesome! Bethany Airhartwww.BRAirhart.myvi.net Cell My daughter is 15 years old...her symptoms include a fever and coughing.
