Guest guest
Are there exercises to work both the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles? We have suggested UWTM to our patient (case information to follow) but are there any other exercises we can suggest? Would ESTEM help? Here's the case info... History: Cheyenne is in for CT scan to evaluate a chronic left forelimb lameness and muscle atrophy on the right shoulder. Physical Examination: 8 year 9 months, MN, Collie Temperature: 100.4, Weight: 33.000 kg, 72.60 lb, Appearance: Bright, Alert, and Responsive, Mucous Membranes: pink, Capillary Refill Time: <2 sec. The heart and lungs were ausculted and sounded normal. Primary Problem: Grade 2/5 lame on the right front leg. Severe muscle atrophy of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles on the right shoulder. The left front leg is within normal limits. The neck palpates within normal limits. No further abnormalities found. Radiographic Findings: CT evaluation of the cervical spine and both shoulders reveal severe supraspinatus and infraspinatus atrophy on the right. There is no evidence of spinal cord compression in the cervical spine. The left shoulder is within normal limits. Diagnosis: Severe supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle atrophy on the right. Strongly suspect an injury to the suprascapular nerve on the right. No source of lame left forelimb lameness was identified. Suggest underwater treadmill therapy to maintain strength of the other muscles of both forelimbs.
