Guest guest
I don't have an answer to your swim mileage question but as a former Ironman triathlete and current marathoner I can say that when athletes are saying that running easier work than swimming, they are comparing exact distances (i.e. it's a heck of a lot easier to run 2.4 miles than it is to swim it). There is no way that I'd consider a 5 minute swim a 5 mile workout for man or beast. Even from a cardio point of view. Guest guest
I couldn't agree with Liz more. There is no comparison when it comes to even distances. Even moreso, I think it is quite difficult if not impossible to extrapolate energy expenditure based on human studies. Comparing apples to oranges is an understatement. Not only are we comparing the efficiency of using very different biomechanics regarding swimming when comparing a human and a dog we are not even dealing with muscle fiber types that are identical. , VMD, CCRP Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine Group https://www.VOSM.com ________________________________________ From: VetRehab [VetRehab ] On Behalf Of Liz Devitt [lizdevitt@...] Sent: Monday, February 20, 2012 8:24 PM To: VetRehab Subject: Swim to Run I don't have an answer to your swim mileage question but as a former Ironman triathlete and current marathoner I can say that when athletes are saying that running easier work than swimming, they are comparing exact distances (i.e. it's a heck of a lot easier to run 2.4 miles than it is to swim it).
