Guest guest
DearAll could any one offer some thoughts on a patient Ive been seeing for 10 years - he came to see me having been diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis .with herbs he has managed to reduce his steroid doseage and his liver function tests have always been pretty stable much to his consultants amazement. early on in treatment it was thought that he had signs of pbc and the consultant put him on a low dose of ursodeoxycholic acid ( a bile acid ) and he has remained more or less stable and free of any symptoms for the last 8- 9 years. However at his last hospital appt blood tests show araised GGT which is indicative of a worsening of the pbc . ( interestingly though his ALP which is nearly always raised with a high GGT is normal ?!) his prescription has been milk thistle seed powder plus a mix of powders which has been the same most of the time and that contains berb vulg , foeniculum , eleutherococcus / zingiber / glycyrrhiza .I did give him curcuma at one point but he started to have some bleeding under the skin but his steroid doseage had been increased at that time .He is on 2.5 mg prednisolone at the moment . sorry for the length of this post but if anyone can think of any changes /additions to his herbs I would be grateful. thanks , annette
Guest guest
Hi Annette, I wonder if it may be worth treating like any other autoimmune disease with Kerry Bone approach? It may be also worth trying other general anti-inflammatories (Boswelia? Calendula? Filipendula?). Hope it helps Annette Wass wrote: DearAll could any one offer some thoughts on a patient Ive been seeing for 10 years - he came to see me having been diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis .with herbs he has managed to reduce his steroid doseage and his liver function tests have always been pretty stable much to his consultants amazement. early on in treatment it was thought that he had signs of pbc and the consultant put him on a low dose of ursodeoxycholic acid ( a bile acid ) and he has remained more or less stable and free of any symptoms for the last 8- 9 years.
