Guest guest
Dear Charlotte I wonder if u would mind recommending some books/journals on nutrition - as believe u have trained as a dietician. Although we studied nutrition during herbal training I felt we only scratched the surface. Faced with Gillian Mc's new book and Holford's many books its hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. Thanks n.,_._,___
Guest guest
Hi n, I also felt that the nutrition module on the herbal medicine training only scratched the surface and, wanting to be better able to separate fact from fiction led to my further study in this area. I am not keen on either GMcK or PH's publications as I think that there is a conflict of interest in many of their recommendations for nutritional supplements as both authors sell these products and the scientific evidence for their use is often based on poor quality and selective evidence. I am not sure exactly what sort of information you are looking for but the two main clinical nutrition text books used by dietitians are: 1) The Manual of Dietetic Practice, Ed. Briony and Jacki Bishop 2) Clinical Paediatric Dietetics, Ed. Shaw and Margaret Lawson Very expensive but well written evidence-based information - available from: www.blackwellpublishing.com Some good publications include: " Network Health Dietitians " - www.NHDmag.com and " Complete Nutrition " - www.nutrition2me.com - both a good read with articles written by dietitians, doctors and researchers. Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics - www.blackwellpublishing.com/jhn (Journal of the British Dietetic Association). Other resources for reliable information include: The BDA website - http://www.bda.uk.com/foodfacts/index.html The FSA - http://www.foodstandards.gov.uk/ SACN reports- http://www.sacn.gov.uk/reports/ British Nutrition Foundation http://www.nutrition.org.uk/home.asp?siteId=43 & sectionId=s Let me know if there is a specific nutrition-related subject you need information on and I'll try and help. Best wishes, Charlotte Re: Charlotte Steadman Dear Charlotte I wonder if u would mind recommending some books/journals on nutrition - as believe u have trained as a dietician.
