I am afraid that this particular scam is a common one, and I know a few people

who have had their email addresses hijacked. I always keep an eye on my 'sent'

box!

Dear All I am posting this on behalf of crissi cromer who cannot get

her emails through at the momemt

WARNING!!!

Did you see that email this morning from Anne Betz asking for money?

It is a scam. If you plug in to Google the name of the charity

organisation she claims to be working for, it comes back with warnings

about email requests very similar to this one. The point is not to

reply or respond in any way at all, otherwise the perpetrator will

know you're live and open to persuasion.

My first concern was that if it was genuine, we should help insofar as

we could. But since it as so lacking in character or personalised

information (e.g. " Hello fellow herbalists " ), and since it connected

with Nigeria, I was dubious...

I tried contacting Betz directly, but she is not available on any

of her numbers.

I contacted the NIMH, asking if they knew if was in Nigeria....

Then I looked for the charity itself, to determine its credentials and

maybe ask if they had information about . Well, all that came back

was warnings about such letters.

So this letter is a scam.

I wonder how they got hold of 's email account? The address is

genuine, and I suppose they got access to the forum via the email

account. A worrying precedent... .

Hi everyone on the uk herbal list.

I am sorry about the scam message. I was actually in germany when it happened

and it took me until today to get all the information together to get access to

my account again. I changed the password to a more secure one and hopefully all

will be well now.
