Guest guest
Hello everyone! Does anyone have any experience of treating this condition? 70year old lady, came to see me 2 weeks ago for first consultation, with very oedematous ankles and feet. Could not palpate dorsalis pedis pulse in right foot, present in left foot and posterior tibialis pulses present bilat. Varicose veins in both ankles and calves. Skin over right shin pruritic and tender with shiny, atrophic, well demarcated dark red indurated areas of skin - but at that point not hot or diffusely erythematous. This patient has a very understanding GP who is prepared to diagnose and suggest what she needs to do, he knows she won't take orthodox medication and has referred her to homeopathic hospital in the past for treatment for her hypertension. He had suggested she needed a diuretic, the homeopath has had no luck in reducing her oedematous legs although her BP is now well controlled, so she came to see me. Her first tx from me was:- Aesculus 25 Tarax fol 20 Centella 20 Ginkgo 20 Crataegus flos 15 5ml tds ex aq The oedema reduced quite rapidly but in the last few days the skin on her right leg has become diffusely red and hot, it is tender to the touch and she's getting intermittent sharp shooting pains over her calf and shin. The previously dry but unbroken skin on her shin has now developed a series of cracks with red centres, these are dry with no evidence of weeping. She saw her GP yesterday and he was understandably concerned about cellulitis. I saw her today - and am equally concerned. She is not feeling feverish or ill in herself. I warned her to watch for red lines tracking up her leg and suggested that although I would give her a mixture, this might be the occasion to seriously consider antibiotics. An additional point to mention is that at her first appt and today on retesting, there was blood in her urine. She has no symptoms of UTI She is vegan. Would appreciate any advice for treating cellulitis, as it's not something I've dealt with before. Regards Sue Salmon Huddersfield
Guest guest
Dear Sue, I have successfully used Calendula compresses to stop and reverse this situation. It is gentle enough to be able to use the compress almost continually but highly effective. I use an old cotton sheet torn up to get a full size leg compress, all the best Kerry
Guest guest
would suggest a blood test to check on white blood cell count to rule out anything more serious. Perhaps GP should refer to dermatologist for diagnosis? Boys URHP cellulitis Hello everyone!
