Guest guest
Jane,I kept hoping someone would answer your question because I don't know what to do. The fibrotic myopathies I have seen have progressed to the point where significant fibrosis was present, limiting the restoration a more normal function. I am not aware of what is recommended in your intro class at CRI and hopefully that is helpful. It is not understood why this problem occurs and to date, I have not seen any literature to support a successful therapy program. In theory, if one were to identify muscle injury, with ultrasound or MRI, prior to the development of fibrosis then rehab modalities might offer some hope in maintaining more normal function or perhaps slowing down progression. I would also consider at this stage, ultrasound guided injections of platelet rich plasma.Rick Wall, DVMThe Woodlands, TX
