Guest guest
Once again, this is a message I tried to post directly using my e-mail rather than online. I'll know better in the future. In any case, here's some information that I hope will be helpful, Lee. -- --------------------------------- I don't have sleep apnea, but my husband does. He tried a CPAP twice but hated it. Fortunately, our dentist ( Keropian)--who had become a specialist in treating TMJ dysfunction, which I *do* have--has gotten into the area of treating people with sleep apnea and snoring problems. He uses a device similar to the one I use for my TMJ problems. It's a small plastic piece that goes over your front teeth. For sleep apnea and snoring, the device is adjusted to keep your airway open. Unfortunately, our health plan has refused to test my husband for sleep apnea while wearing the device. (The plan still recognizes only CPAP or maybe BPAP for sleep apnea.) But my husband did sleep a lot better for a long time while using the device. (Recently, he's developed insomnia, but he doesn't think that's related to sleep apnea.) From my own observations, I know that he snores much less, and I haven't heard him gasping for air in his sleep since he started using the device. That used to happen fairly frequently before. For more info about this, you can go to http://www.orthodonticproductsonline.com/issues/articles/2007-06_06.asp .. By the way, I just found that article by doing an Internet search. The article at the link above (from a magazine for orthodontists) almost seems like an advertisement, but I just mean it as information for you that may be helpful. If you do an Internet search on " Keropian " you can find other references to him as well. I trust . He helped me tremendously with my TMJ headaches, and he's helped my husband with sleep apnea. Besides all that, I've known him for years. We lived on the same block years ago and went to the same high school (though we were in different graduating classes). I hope this information is useful. -- ====================================== > > Hi all > Havent written for ages but would like some advice if possible. > Do any of you have sleep apnoea and if so what do you do to help it? > I have had probolems for ages now and have to do something about it as i am only getting aroun 3 hours sleep a night. > I had a sleep study done last year and was told I could either get a cpap or maybe try a mouth night splint. > I also went to a throat specialist who didnt even mention my breathlessness and told me to drink more water so i have made another appointment to see him again next month to ask more questions. > Also when i am breathing I feel like I am breathing dust constantly do any of you get that sensation at all at times? > Hope you are all well and look forward to your replies > Cheers Lee > > > Get the name you always wanted with the new y7mail email address. > www.yahoo7.com.au/y7mail >
