Guest guest
I'd look at getting him an EKG as soon as possible to " rule out " (or in) seizures. Is he on Taurine? Cross post: Petite Mal Seizure Hi all, I have observed now for a bout a week what I believe to be petite mal seizures. It first it started buy few seconds of gazing like he used to do before GFCF and I thought it could be caused by yeast over growth and bad bacteria which he has been struggling with for over a month. To treat that we first approached natural remedies but since progress was slow have switched to Rx antibiotics and Nystatin. I also have observed now quite frequently pressing of his eyelids and a little shaking of his head with a second of disorientation. This has been happening more and more lately some times 5-6 times back to back within a two minute period. It is just like the seizure episode shown in the video of Stan Kurt's son which is posted on testimonial page of generation rescue. I really don't know what I should do. I'll see my son's ped (a sympathetic and DAN protocol aware dr) on august first and will notify his DAN soon. Is this could be viral related? I am waiting for the antibiotic course to end in order to start LDN and if that doesn't work, give Valtrex a try. I recently noticed that my son has been given MMR and Varicella on the same day, most likely a combined shot. I am really worried as we had a honeymoon period at the start of DAN and that all now has ended for the past 3 months. Those of you who have dealt with seizures before, could you please tell me what I need to do. Thank you, Haleh
Guest guest
Haleh, Our daughter has absence seizures. She has staring spells that last up to 10 seconds. She was diagnosed when she was three and was prescribed Depakote. She's almost 12 now. She tried several medications and this one worked. She took Depakote for 8 years and was recently switched to Keppra about 7 months ago. Keppra does not control the spacing out as well as Depakote but it isn't chemically as hard on her body. I found that certain fat soluble substances trigger the spells. Even Primal defense which is metabolized using short chain fatty acids will cause her to space out. Most people give their children a couple of scoops per day - I can only give our daughter 1/4-1/2 scoop. Vitamin E and D - fish oil and too much carnitine cause her to space out. We've gone through so many genetic fatty acid testing - bottom line is that she's missing certain enzymes in the " chain " and she can't metabolize certain fatty acids very well. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It's heart breaking to watch your child space out or become unaware of his surroundings. It's just awful. Keep looking for triggers - they may be from the day before. We ran an 8 hour EEG on our daughter in December. It consisted of a video tape, monitor, and brain wave. After all of that - she's still taking the same medication. But, the neurologist wanted to prove that carnitine was a trigger. We gave our daughter the prescribed amount of Carnitor and it was just terrible. So, carnitine helps our daughter in " little bitty " amounts but is detrimental in large amounts. Vit.E is the same way - she loves V8 juice but if she drinks it -she will space out. The only form of A she can tolerate in very small doses is Micel A. Guest guest
Thank you Shari and Tami for responding to my post. I appreciate all thoughts and information you have provided for me. We just came back from ER based on the recommendation of both our son's DAN as well as The ped office. The ER doctor was puzzled as to why I brought him in. She recommended to take him to a neuralogist for an EEG. Mean while, I will be stopping Oxydrene for three days to see if they go away and if not then I stop NCD for that long and ultimately all new things I have added until I find the culprit. We see his pediatrician on monday and get referral for neuralogist. The ER doctor made me sound like I was crazy to take him in even though it was based on two doctors recommendations. I am so sick of these young doctors who have never bothered learning anything about autism even though there are a lot kids on the spectrum now. Keyon is currently fighting all three typ of infections; bacterial, fungal and viral and is on anti fungal and antibiotics both. The idea of giving him an anti convulsion drug stresses me our more and I will try all other routes i.e. more Taurine and/or Yasko's recommendations first . For now I want to say thank you to all of you kind people and go down stairs to just hug, kiss and devour my sweet beautiful boy. wishing all Peace and good health, Haleh > Haleh, > Our daughter has absence seizures. Guest guest
Haleh, Here are some more ideas re: seizures (just from searches - my only related first hand info is with tics - not seizures, caused by I think mold sensitivity or pesticides, or excessive processed free glutamic acid ) http://www.mold-survivor.com/symptoms.htm fungal/mold sensitivity (if you want to test this idea try a hepa air purifier to run in your child's room, if that helps reduce the seizures you would have an idea to explore Look into the following: Taurine, Carn-Aware, magnesium, selenium, and glutathione. Ideal if you have a recent RBC minerals test to check levels and a urine AA before supplementing. Some kids may be already high Taurine even w/o supplementation. Look into neurofeedback, specific reference was Dr. (a neurologist) in Dallas Texas One mom reported Calcium Citrate causing seizures for her daughter.
